Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Active Directory Administrator is responsible for the design, configuration, monitoring, maintenance, and support of a comprehensive Active Directory environment across the Sault Tribe, including Tribal Government, Gaming & Hospitality, Health, and Enterprises. The position monitors the Active Directory environment to proactively identify, isolate, troubleshoot, and respond to issues affecting user access, authentication, security, and system availability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)

  • Design, implement, configure, and maintain Active Directory infrastructure across a large, multi-site organization supporting 24/7/365 operations.
  • Manage Active Directory users, groups, permissions, organizational structures, domain configurations, site configurations, and replication.
  • Design, implement, and maintain Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and Group Policy Preferences (GPP) to standardize desktop, laptop, server, user, software, security, printer, and network configurations.
  • Monitor Active Directory health and performance to proactively identify and resolve replication errors, authentication failures, Group Policy issues, synchronization problems, and other potential issues.
  • Implement and maintain role-based access controls and Active Directory security best practices to protect against unauthorized access, privilege escalation, malicious activity, and other security threats.
  • Collaborate with the IT Network Manager, network administrators, backup and recovery administrators, network technicians, Security team, and other IT staff to ensure Active Directory integrates effectively with network infrastructure, security systems, applications, and data protection strategies.
  • Support backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity efforts by ensuring Active Directory is properly protected and recoverable.
  • Automate routine Active Directory administrative tasks using PowerShell and other scripting tools to improve efficiency, consistency, and reliability.
  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, incident response, and recovery assistance for Active Directory access, authentication, user accounts, Group Policy, and related system issues.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, assist with user onboarding and offboarding, and stay current with Active Directory technologies, security threats, industry standards, and best practices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position heavy with lifting of 100 pounds maximum and frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of color vision, typing; frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, use of hearing, driving, bending; occasional pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, manual handling, use of smell, near/midrange/far vision and field of vision. Working conditions include occasional exposure to weather, wet/humidity, noise and air quality. Potential hazards include constant computer use and occasional exposure to electric shock, high exposed places, chemicals and equipment.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems Management, Computer Science or similar degree required or five years of experience in computer networking may be considered in lieu of degree.

Experience: No additional experience required.

Certification/License: Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver’s license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must undergo a Criminal background investigation done under the rules of the National Indian Gaming Commission. Must comply with the Sault Tribe’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy which may include random drug tests.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have strong knowledge of Active Directory architecture, including users, groups, permissions, Group Policy, replication, domain and site configuration. Strong understanding of Active Directory administration in a large, multi-site environment required. Must have knowledge of Active Directory security principles, access controls, and best practices. Must have working knowledge of TCP/IP and integration with network infrastructure and security systems. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID and its integration with Active Directory and cloud-based identity services. Proficiency in configuring, managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting Active Directory, Group Policy, and Entra ID required.  Proficiency with PowerShell and scripting for administrative automation required. Must have strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Must have excellent communication, collaboration, documentation, and customer service skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to emerging technologies and security threats, and maintain a high level of accuracy, security, and attention to detail required. Native American preferred.
