Job Title: Access Network and OSS Architect

Reports to: VP of Network

Status: Full-Time/Exempt

Department: Engineering Operations
Location: Florida


Position Summary:

The Access Network OSS Architect is responsible for design and optimization of our enterprise-wide access layer infrastructure. In this role, they will define technology plans for HFC, PON, and XGS PON and manage capacity forecast, vendor roadmaps, and operational standards, and also support the Service Activation Domain. They will be responsible for assisting in design, development, and implementation of enterprise-wide customer premises equipment activation, service provisioning, and operations applications and their associated operating systems and databases, as well as for Application Administration of CPE activation, provisioning, and operations platforms applications. They will actively participate in the full life cycle of systems engineering activities of high-quality, scalable solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Develops solutions in support of service offerings in the access layer.
  • Evaluates emerging network technologies and conduct proof-of-concepts.
  • Leads engineering teams through complex hardware refreshes, configuration deployments, and software updates.
  • Analyzes traffic patterns and performance metrics to proactively scale bandwidth and minimize latency.
  • Collaborates with hardware and software vendors to evaluate products.
  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Works with product, IT service delivery and advanced engineering to determine needs.
  • Reviews existing integration capabilities, data sources, and cost and functionality.
  • Creates work effort estimates for assigned tasks and support prioritization and release management.
  • Deployment of core code modules, unit test tools and release notes for enhancements and bug fixes. Installs, administers, configures and maintains CPE activation, provisioning, and operations applications including operating systems and related software.
  • Uses established change management processes to ensure operational procedures are performed with minimal customer impact, (i.e. during established maintenance window).
  • Documents systems configurations and upgrades.
  • Implements change control policies and disaster recovery plans. Monitors and assists in managing applications, device availability, network conditions and system reliability and performance, service and program maintenance and storage resources.
  • Works on multiple highly complex major projects requiring innovative, original solutions.
  • Plans multiple projects simultaneously. Estimates, tracks & completes project on time and within budget where the results are key to successful completion of major projects/programs.
  • Leads group of engineers and technicians and is responsible for budget and manpower estimates.
  • Some travel may be required.

Qualifications:


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


-Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or related field.
  • +10 years’ experience in network engineering, with at least 2 years specifically in an architectural or principal design role.

-Experience/Skills Needed:

  • Deep expertise in routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, EVPN, IEEE 802.11 wireless standards.
  • Cloud & Automation: Experience integrating on-premises access networks with cloud environments and utilizing automation tools (Python, Ansible, Terraform).
  • Experience migrating legacy GPON networks to XGS-PON architectures.
  • Knowledge of open-source broadband frameworks like BBF (Broadband Forum).
  • Strong technical writing skills to produce high-quality architectural design documents (ADD) and method of procedure (MOP) guidelines.
  • SME on multiple platforms and/or systems under specialty and with a detailed understanding of how multiple systems interact. Ability to provide innovative solutions to unique problems.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and infrequent work reviews while meeting outcomes and goals provided by department head/organizational leadership.
  • Experience in providing guidance and training to team and other departments.
  • Exercises substantial initiative/judgment in work methods and in interpreting goals.
  • Able to give effective presentations to critical/high level customers and effectively represent work group on review panels and cross-organizational teams. Can write convincing proposals and reports with necessary documented evidence for external consumption.
  • Knowledge of end-to-end service design and operations of voice, video, data, and business services.
  • Knowledge of provisioning process.
  • Knowledge of firmware deployment process.
