Job description

We have an outstanding Contract position for a Senior Route and Switch Engineer to join a leading Company located in the Grand Forks, ND surrounding area.

**US Citizenship is required.**
**Candidate must possess an Active Secret Security Clearance.**

We are seeking an experienced Senior Route and Switch Engineer with a strong background in government network infrastructure, particularly within Air Force and Space Force environments. This position requires deep expertise in network design, configuration, and troubleshooting of Cisco and Juniper equipment, wireless networking, and complex IP schemes. Candidates must possess a current Secret clearance and be available for up to two weeks of travel per month to support projects across multiple government sites.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise-class routed and switched networks using Cisco and Juniper platforms.
  • Conduct comprehensive network surveys and discovery efforts to support new installations and system upgrades.
  • Develop and document network design principles and standards, ensuring scalability, security, and compliance with customer policies.
  • Lead or support the configuration and troubleshooting of Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols across WAN and LAN environments.
  • Configure and support wireless networking solutions including site survey, AP placement, and secure access.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute mission-critical network deployments and migrations.
  • Maintain system integrity, performance, and compliance with cybersecurity requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide expert-level guidance on routing, switching, and network design best practices.

Basic Hiring Criteria:
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in network engineering with a focus on Cisco and Juniper hardware and software.
  • Cisco certification: CCNP Routing & Switching (or higher); additional Juniper certifications are a plus.
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and design principles.
  • Extensive experience with network discovery, documentation, and survey processes.
  • Proficiency in IP addressing/subnetting, VLANs, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, STP, HSRP/VRRP, and other core protocols.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting DoD networks, with direct experience in U.S. Air Force environments and familiarity with Air Force networks.
  • Experience working in classified environments and following DISA STIGs and other federal cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to two weeks per month to CONUS government facilities.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field.
  • Experience with software-defined networking (SDN) or automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python scripting for network tasks).
  • Prior military service or direct support of tactical/strategic military communications systems.
