The Opportunity:

We're looking to fill an opening for a Principal Network Engineer to join our Technology Ops & Support Partners team.

Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure Operations, the Principal Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and providing technical leadership for modern network infrastructure across cloud and on-prem environments. This is a hands-on, high ownership role that will play a key part in evolving our Azure-native networking capabilities while maintaining a secure and resilient hybrid network foundation.

The ideal candidate brings deep Azure networking expertise, strong fundamentals in traditional networking (Cisco, routing/switching), and hands-on experience with next-generation firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet). Multi-cloud experience (AWS/GCP) is considered a strong asset.

What your day looks like:

Cloud Networking

  • Design and implement scalable, secure Azure networking solutions: Virtual Networks, hub-and-spoke topologies, VNet peering, NSGs, Azure Firewall/NVA architectures, UDRs, and Private Endpoints 
  • Build, establish and maintain secure traffic inspection patterns - centralized firewalling, inbound/outbound segmentation 
  • Lead architecture for hybrid connectivity via VPN and ExpressRoute, including advanced routing scenarios 
  • Partner with cloud, security, and application teams on scalable platform architecture that aligns with enterprise platform and security requirements

Network Engineering

  • Oversee the reliability, performance and optimization of enterprise network infrastructure - routing, switching (Cisco preferred), WAN/LAN design, DNS, DHCP, BGP, NAT 
  • Act as senior escalation point for complex network troubleshooting across cloud and on-prem environments
  • Establish and maintain network standards, documentation, and operational runbooks to support consistent and efficient operations

Security & Firewall Management

  • Deploy and manage next-generation firewalls, primarily Palo Alto (PAN-OS/Panorama); Fortinet (FortiGate/FortiManager) experience is an asset 
  • Define and enforce network security policies, segmentation, and threat protection controls 
  • Collaborate with security teams on incident response and vulnerability mitigation 

Automation & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop IaC patterns for network resources using Terraform and Bicep 
  • Drive automation of deployment and configuration of network infrastructure 
  • Improve observability, monitoring, and alerting for proactive management of network performance and reliability 

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Provide senior technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers 
  • Contribute to architecture decisions and long-term network strategy 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across infrastructure, security, and application teams 

Requirements

Your experience and skills:

  • 7+ years of experience in network engineering or infrastructure roles 
  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience
  • Professional-level networking certification such as CCNP and Azure Network Engineer Associate certification, or equivalent practical experience; PCNSE or Fortinet certification is an asset.
  • Strong hands-on Azure networking experience - VNets, ExpressRoute, Azure Firewall, hub-and-spoke, UDRs; this is the core of the role 
  • Solid fundamentals: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, routing and switching, VPNs, DNS, DHCP 
  • Enterprise network hardware experience, Cisco preferred (IOS/NX-OS) 
  • Next-gen firewall experience: Palo Alto required (PAN-OS/Panorama), Fortinet a strong asset 
  • Proven experience supporting hybrid cloud environments 
  • Fluent communication skills in English are required and bilingual skills in French are an asset
  • Multi-cloud networking experience (AWS Transit Gateway, GCP VPC, etc.) is an asset
  • Cloud network security and zero-trust architecture experience is an asset
  • Scripting/automation skills (PowerShell, Python, Ansible) is an asset
  • Relevant certifications: CCIE, Other Azure Certifications, Other AWS Certifications is an asset
