Job description

The College of Naturopathic Medicine at Sonoran University of Health Sciences is seeking applications for our Teaching Assistant pool to assist faculty in a variety of courses in the Naturopathic Medicine degree program. Teaching Assistants help faculty oversee the delivery of instruction and assessment for both courses and labs. Teaching Assistants also provide students with feedback and answer student questions. Teaching Assistants do not need extensive teaching experience but are lifelong learners, proven teachers or mentors, or have a passion for helping support student learning and success. Teaching Assistants are assigned courses aligned with their expertise that are taught using Canvas, Sonoranโ€™s online Learning Management System (LMS). Teaching Assistants are responsible for interacting with students within that LMS.


Responsibilities include:

  1. Be familiar with all course content.
  2. Equip students with the required knowledge and skills to be successful in the assigned course and to prepare students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession.
  3. Assist with grading assignments and facilitating classroom discussions.
  4. Provide timely response to communications by faculty, students, and program leadership, preferably within 24-hours.
  5. Serve as a positive role model to students.
  6. Specific responsibilities to the course as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Masterโ€™s degree or Doctorate in health sciences from an accredited institution. Teaching Assistants will be matched to courses in need of support by degree earned.
  2. Related experience in education or as a teaching assistant is preferred.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extensive periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse. Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling of up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Communicate to perform essential functions.

Background/Screening:
