The Ultrasound Research Lab in the Department of Radiology is seeking a person to do research focused on contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imaging for early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the fastest-growing cause of cancer death in the U.S. The lab is developing hydralazine-augmented contrast ultrasound (HyCUS), a novel functional imaging technique that exploits differences between tumor and liver vasculature to dramatically improve early HCC visibility, with preliminary data showing more than a 3-fold increase in lesion detectability. This position is designed as a structured, mentored research experience for a student transitioning from undergraduate study toward a career in medicine, providing meaningful clinical and translational research exposure before matriculating to medical school.
