Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses
Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for part-time Information Systems Technology (IST) Adjunct Faculty in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. IST adjunct faculty are needed to teach college-level courses in-person on the main Virginia Western campus, as well as hybrid or distance learning/online courses. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education. In addition, faculty are expected to be active participants in departmental communication.
Applications will be received and considered on a continuous basis. Review of applications will occur when an adjunct faculty need arises and will continue until needed positions are filled.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Two years of related occupational experience.
Educational requirements depend on the course(s) being taught:
Transfer courses require a Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Information Systems Technology (IST), Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or related field.
Other Information Systems Technology courses require a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems Technology (IST), Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or related field.
All Adjunct Faculty positions require excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams; ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum and assessments; as well as the ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
Additional Considerations
Master's degree in the teaching field. Experience teaching in a college setting. Demonstrated skills in successfully working with diverse populations. Experience using technology in the classroom and teaching online. Occupational experience and current certifications in the topic of interest.
