This role sits at the intersection of Software Development, Linux System Administration, Operational Technology (OT), Service Engineering, and Fleet Reliability. The successful candidate will develop software solutions, monitoring frameworks, automation tools, and diagnostic platforms that enable early detection of hardware and software issues, improve root cause analysis, and reduce customer downtime.

The ideal candidate combines strong Python development capabilities with hands-on experience supporting Linux/Ubuntu environments, Distributed Access Systems (DAS), OS7 platforms, Grafana dashboards, operational monitoring systems, and industrial control networks.

This position directly supports customer satisfaction, fleet reliability, service scalability, and operational excellence throughout North and South America.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software tools that improve fleet monitoring, troubleshooting efficiency, and operational reliability across Fluence's Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) fleet
  • Develop applications, automation scripts, and diagnostic tools that support Service Engineering, Fleet Optimization, Technical Support, and Field Service organizations.
  • Create proactive hardware and software monitoring solutions that identify system issues before they impact customer operations.
  • Design, develop, and maintain Grafana dashboards, visualizations, and alerting frameworks to improve fleet observability, troubleshooting, and operational decision-making.
  • Work with the digital team, creating requirements for Nispera, Alerta, and Zabbix tooling.
  • Develop monitoring and diagnostic tools supporting Data Acquisition Systems (DAS), OS7 environments, Linux servers, network infrastructure, and edge computing systems.
  • Build automation capabilities that reduce manual troubleshooting effort and accelerate identification of hardware failures, software issues, communication faults, and network disruptions.
  • Develop tools that collect, process, analyze, and present operational data from multiple fleet systems and monitoring platforms.
  • Support root cause analysis efforts through development of automated diagnostic workflows and troubleshooting utilities.
  • Collaborate with Controls & SCADA Engineers, Network Support Engineers, Product Engineering, Deployment Teams, and Field Service Engineers to develop scalable solutions addressing operational challenges.
  • Support fleet reliability initiatives by identifying opportunities for automation, process improvement, and proactive issue detection.
  • Maintain software documentation, system architecture documentation, deployment procedures, and operational support materials.
  • Assist with critical customer escalations by developing tools and diagnostics that improve troubleshooting accuracy.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for complex hardware-related issues across Fluence's operational Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) fleet.
  • Review and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and hardware documentation to diagnose and resolve field issues.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Network Solutions Deployment (NSD), and Field Service teams to identify and resolve hardware design issues discovered during deployment and operations.
  • Support fleet-wide hardware upgrade initiatives by developing implementation plans, validating compatibility, identifying risks, and supporting execution.
  • Evaluate recurring hardware failures and identify opportunities for product improvements, reliability enhancements, and corrective actions.
  • Support technical investigations involving hardware non-conformances, field failures, warranty claims, and customer escalations.
  • Develop troubleshooting procedures, repair instructions, hardware service bulletins, and technical documentation to improve field support capabilities.
  • Provide technical guidance and escalation support to Field Service Engineers, Technical Support teams, and Customer Operations organizations.
  • Support spare parts planning and lifecycle management by identifying critical components, obsolescence risks, replacement strategies, and alternate part solutions.
  • Analyze failure trends across the installed fleet and work with engineering teams to drive corrective and preventive actions.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities and Lessons Learned reviews to improve fleet reliability and reduce repeat issues.
  • Support factory acceptance testing, site commissioning activities, and post-deployment investigations when hardware performance concerns arise.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, automation, systems engineering, observability platforms, or operational technology environments.
  • Proficiency in Python development, including scripting, automation, data processing, and application development.
  • Hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting Linux and Ubuntu operating systems.
  • Experience developing monitoring, troubleshooting, diagnostic, or observability tools in production environments.
  • Experience with Grafana dashboard creation, data visualization, and alert management.
  • Experience working with REST APIs, data integrations, and automation frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, communication protocols, and system diagnostics.
  • Experience with Git and software development lifecycle best practices.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Experience with OS7 environments and associated operational technologies.
  • Experience supporting or developing solutions for Distributed Access Systems (DAS).
