Job description

Summary Maintain the department's GIS system. Responsible for designing, developing and customizing GIS applications that support the business needs of the organization with the use of cartographic design and drafting principles. Create and edit new and existing graphical and tabular data, analyze recommendations for new district and precinct lines for Tarrant County, and implement changes resulting from state and federal redistricting.

Interface directly with clients regarding GIS needs. Creates and edits new streets in Voter Registration System. POSTING MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME ONCE A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS IS RECEIVED Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develops and maintains the organization's GIS applications.

Provides layers for the County GIS system. Determines requirements, appropriate software and design methodologies for GIS applications. Designs, develops, maintains, and implements applications in order to develop and maintain enterprise spatial data and related information on two street systems.

Assists with the administration and instruction of GIS tools, procedures and related duties. Documents systems, programs and operational procedures for Tarrant County Elections Department GIS systems. Supervises all aspects of data entry and research and verifies information in the Elections GIS system for the GIS Support position.

Assists in the management and administration of the GIS data warehouse which includes systems monitoring, user interface improvements, verification of data integrity, and distribution. Assists contractor and vendor GIS programmers in the development of complex GIS programs and procedures. Analyzes various sources and data content for the periodic update of base data.

Plays a leading role in most aspects of systems analysis, general systems design, vendor contracts, and detailed systems design. Provides geographical information services to other County departments and political subdivisions on a time available basis. Creates and edits streets on Voter Registration System, resolving streets not found and street ranges not found.

Resolves reports from SOS on street issues (streets with no block ranges or no districts and manually tied streets). Implements changes due to redistricting. Describes precinct lines and district information.

Performs all other related duties as required. Minimum Requirements Associates degree or equivalent Three (3) years of GIS experience (background in GIS computer graphics) Spreadsheet and/or word processing software experience or experience with specialized software/applications. Ability to define precise descriptive geographic information.
