The Pratt & Whitney Customer Training Center (CTC) is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to assist in the development and execution of next generation training infrastructure. Using modern commercial hardware and software, this role focuses on planning, prototyping, and guiding the creation of tools and processes that enable scalable, high quality training solutions across the organization. The candidate will play a key role in embedding these solutions into business processes and ensuring consistency, repeatability, and alignment with quality standards.

This position also involves cross organizational collaboration, sharing best practices, and supporting both Military and Commercial Engine customers.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead collaboration with Instructional Systems Designers and Subject Matter Experts to assess business needs, evaluate training requests, and identify opportunities for 3D/VR/AR/MR solutions.

  • Oversee the interaction design and information architecture process to ensure intuitive user experiences for both novice and expert learners.

  • Establish and manage procedures that support hardware and software product development throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Assist in directing the design, development, testing, documentation, and debugging of training platforms that incorporate logical and mathematical components.

  • Ensure development teams deliver clean, well structured, and maintainable code that meets project requirements and quality expectations.

  • Coordinate issue tracking, documentation, and resolution by partnering with testers, users, and technical teams.

  • Analyze system capabilities and user workflows to define requirements and resolve issues related to system purpose, data inputs, and outputs.

  • Enforce adherence to hardware and software standards across all project deliverables.

  • Monitor industry trends in real time graphics and XR technologies to inform long term planning and technology selection.

  • Contribute to the development of companywide software configuration standards and best practices.

  • Support training and knowledge sharing activities related to configuration management tools and software quality processes.

  • Develop and deliver training sessions, workshops, and onboarding programs to upskill internal teams on the PW 3D ecosystem.

  • Evaluate new XR technologies, tools, and vendor capabilities to support emerging program needs.

  • Ability to travel to manufacturing, maintenance, or training facilities as needed.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant software development experience; Or Associates Degree and 7 years of experience as listed above.

  • Skilled at operating within highly regulated, compliance‑driven aerospace or similar

  • Adept in object-oriented programming languages such as C# or C++, Python, SQL, or web service integration frameworks.

  • Experience in at least one of the following:  low-level computer graphics programming (OpenGL / DirectX) or commercial game engines (Unity3D, Unreal, CryEngine/ Lumberyard).

  • Experience developing immersive real-time applications for VR/AR/MR platforms and large-scale visualization systems including head-mounted displays, interactive simulation environments, tiled display walls, and immersive training systems.

  • Familiarity with standard XR development practices, tools, and design patterns.

  • Ability to understand business needs, articulate trade-offs and discuss solutions with business and development teams.

  • Knowledge of modern 3D graphics and visualization pipelines including shaders, physically based rendering (PBR), lighting models, material systems, and real-time asset interchange formats such as USD, MaterialX, and glTF.

  • Experience in system integration, debugging, and modular architecture design.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
