Job description

SUMMARY
The Graphic Artist Mac Operator plays a significant role supporting our internal production needs and customer expectations by utilizing established workflows and software solutions to prepare customer supplied graphic files for proofing and printing plates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
These include, but are not limited to the following and may include other duties as necessary:
  • Utilize Outlook, MS Word, Excel and other office software to email, create & edit documents, and otherwise communicate with internal and external contacts.
  • Receive, organize, and review incoming graphics files.
  • Create preflight data entries that capture production requirements.
  • Verify artwork elements & design intents align with CCL requirements.
  • Utilize Mac-based production software [Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Esko/DeskPack/AE/WebCenter], and other software to produce proofs & plates.
  • Develop production artwork according to preflight notes & CCL requirements.
  • Create color separations, apply trapping, format barcodes, etc.
  • Use Global Vision software to ensure production content matches customer supplied artwork.
  • Perform detailed quality checks confirming the accuracy & alignment of preflight data, proofs, and printing plates.
  • Monitor the production schedule and arrange workload to meet the needs of upcoming jobs.
  • Proficiently operate the plate engraving machine to expose & image plate materials.
  • Process imaged materials in the plate processor and trim plates down to final sizes.
  • Transfer finished, approved plates to the Ink and Plates Department with the job packet.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Maintain equipment in the department as directed.
  • Communicate all concerns with the department management.

DEVELOPMENTAL SKILLS
Qualified candidate must demonstrate on ongoing willingness and ability to learn and adapt to new technologies, workflows, and job situations.
This individual must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; utilize good judgment in making decisions; have strong technical/mechanical abilities; sustain good organizational skills, attention to details; exercise initiative and proactively address concerns/questions in various work situations.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
COMPUTER SKILLS
To successfully perform the duties of this job, an individual must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and other software.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Two or more years of relevant prepress work experience, especially with Adobe, Esko and/or Hybrid products is desired. High School Diploma or a higher education in Graphic Design from an accredited school.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands, fingers, or feet. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Lift 40lbs or less.
