Job Summary
The School of Applied and Creative Computing at Purdue University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice position on the West Lafayette, Indiana campus, starting in Fall 2026. We seek an accomplished professional with experience in all computing fields related to the school, ranging from Animation, Applied Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Computer Graphics, Cyber Forensics, Cyberinfrastructure, Cybersecurity, Data analytics and Visualization, Game Design and Development, Human-Centered Computing, Visual Effects, to VR and XR. This position is a key part of our strategic effort to bridge industry practice with academic excellence, with a primary focus on teaching to prepare students to meet the critical challenges of computing in an increasingly intelligent and connected world.
About the School
Situated within Purdue University, a pioneering land-grant institution, the School of Applied and Creative Computing is a new school forged from the strategic merger of two long-standing computing departments, Computer Graphics and Computer Information Technology, and is one of three keystones of the Purdue Computes initiative. Fueled by high student demand, it is the largest school within the Purdue Polytechnic, one of ten colleges at Purdue. We are a research-intensive school dedicated to applied research shaped by close collaboration with industry, and we prepare students at the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels to excel in the future of computing. Job Duties
As a vital faculty member, the successful candidate for this position will be expected to contribute to the academic excellence of the school by demonstrating the ability to translate industry expertise into impactful educational experiences. This includes developing and teaching compelling undergraduate and graduate courses, with a focus on applied areas, ensuring our curriculum remains at the cutting edge of industry practice. A key part of this role is mentoring students for successful careers and leveraging professional networks to forge strong industry and government partnerships that create opportunities for our students. In addition, the successful candidate will also contribute to our collaborative, interdisciplinary culture through service to the school, university, and the profession. Professors of Practice participate in departmental, college, and university-level activities and have professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
Candidates must satisfy one of the following qualifications:
  • Completion of Ph.D. degree or terminal degree in computing or closely related field by August 1, 2026; or
  • Possession of a master's degree in computing or closely related field with a minimum of five years of relevant industry or teaching experience.
