Tooling Engineer / Mold Maker (CAD/CAM/CNC)Metro Moulded Parts - Keeping Classic Cars Sealed Tight Since 1918

Location: Twin Cities, MN (on-site in Coon Rapids)
Pay: $30-$60/hour DOE (most hires land $50-$55/hour)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, full-time (40 hours). Overtime available when you want it.
Do You Love Classic Cars AND Making Cool Stuff?

Here's a job where you design it, machine it, and then walk over to a heated garage full of vintage muscle cars to test-fit your creation. No, seriously.
At Metro Moulded Parts, we've been the go-to name in rubber weatherstripping and seals for classic car restorations since 1918. We make door seals, trunk seals, window gaskets, and all those detail rubber parts that keep a '69 Camaro from leaking and a '57 Chevy looking showroom-fresh. Our parts ship to classic car restorers around the world, and we make all our own tooling in-house.
This is not your average manufacturing gig. You'll work hands-on with aluminum tooling, modern CAD/CAM software, and brand-new Haas CNC machines. Then you get to validate your work on actual classic cars. If you've ever wanted a job where you can say, "Yeah, I test-fit parts on a vintage Mustang today," this is it.
What You'll Actually Do

Reverse engineer parts using scan data (bring back what's been discontinued!)
Design aluminum compression molds and injection molds (single and multi-cavity)
Rapid prototype with our dedicated 3D printing room so you can check fit before you cut aluminum
Program toolpaths (Fusion 360 or similar) and create clear setup documentation
Run CNC jobs as needed: prove-out programs, verify tooling, and dial things in
Test-fit parts on classic cars in our nearby heated garage (yes, even in Minnesota winters)
Improve and repair existing tooling for continuous production
Keep things organized with files, revision notes, and documentation so the whole team wins
Tools & Environment (The Good Stuff)

New Haas CNC Machines
Fusion 360, SolidWorks, and Spaceclaim
3D Scanning Access
Dedicated 3D Printing Room
On-site Classic Car Garage for test-fitting year-round
What We're Looking For

Experience taking tooling from concept to finished, working mold
Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, Inventor, NX... dealer's choice)
Solid CAM skills and practical machining knowledge (feeds/speeds, tooling, setups, verification)
Comfortable on the shop floor troubleshooting CNC machines
Good surfacing and solid modeling chops
Reliable and organized
Bonus Points (Nice to Have):
Compression/injection tooling experience
Experience standardizing tool libraries, fixtures, or CAM templates
3D scanning workflow experience
Benefits

Health insurance (company pays majority of premium)
Vision insurance
Optional dental insurance available
401(k) with company match
Life insurance
Paid holidays & PTO
Why You'll Like It Here

Simple, clear priorities with no corporate maze to navigate
Direct communication and small team feel
Your work has real impact on the final product
See your parts ship worldwide to car enthusiasts
You actually get to work with cool classic cars
Fast-paced but fun environment
How We Work

We keep it straightforward. Clear priorities, direct communication, and no guessing games. We use standard setup sheets, keep files organized, and focus on cycle time, quality, and getting molds to "first good part" efficiently.
Ready to Apply?

Send us your resume and 1-2 examples of past work if you've got them. Screenshots of mold designs, toolpaths, or photos of finished tooling are perfect.
We'll keep the process confidential and follow up quickly.
Come join a team where your designs help keep automotive history alive, one perfect seal at a time.
