Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The PT Mascot supports campus spirit, student engagement, community outreach, and college events by serving as the assigned LSC mascot at approved activities and appearances. This position brings the mascot to life through energetic, positive, and professional nonverbal engagement at orientations, campus events, community activities, college fairs, special appearances, and student engagement programs. The role may also assist with marketing, communications, multimedia, event preparation, general office support, and departmental operations. This position requires reliability, creativity, professionalism, flexibility, physical stamina, and the ability to follow college policies, safety protocols, mascot guidelines, confidentiality expectations, and brand standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Serves as the college mascot at approved campus student, employee, athletic, recruitment, outreach, community, and special events by providing energetic, welcoming, and engaging interaction that promotes campus spirit and positively represents the college

  2. Brings the mascot to life through nonverbal communication, gestures, body language, posing, audience interaction, and expressive movement while remaining in character during appearances

  3. Supports event preparation and execution by assisting with setup, material preparation and distribution, guest engagement, photo opportunities, event coverage, cleanup, and other event-related needs

  4. Maintains the mascot experience by assisting with proper care, cleaning, storage, preparation, and readiness of the mascot costume, props, and related materials

  5. Collaborates with campus departments, such as College Relations staff, and other teams to support mascot appearances, engagement opportunities, marketing/communications projects, outreach activities, and department initiatives

  6. May assist with marketing, communications, and multimedia support, including digital and print content, social media support, writing assistance, photography, video, promotional materials, and related department projects

  7. Provides general office, administrative, and departmental support, including organizing files, preparing materials, tracking project needs, assisting with scheduling or meeting preparation, and supporting daily operations.

  8. May conduct campus tours for prospective and new students, as well as community visitors.

  9. May provide support for calling campaigns and other recruitment or student engagement initiatives

  10. Represents the college professionally by following college policies, safety protocols, mascot guidelines, confidentiality expectations, brand standards, and appropriate conduct during campus and community activities

  11. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Coursework experience, or demonstrated interest in marketing, communications, multimedia, photography, video, events, community outreach, student engagement, or a related field.

  • High-energy, outgoing, positive, and creative personality with the ability to engage diverse audiences of all ages.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with students, employees, and community members.

  • Ability to perform in a full mascot costume using nonverbal communication, gestures, body language, posing, and audience interaction.

  • Physical stamina and agility to wear a full mascot costume with limited visibility, including in warm or outdoor conditions; able to walk, dance, pose, wave, and lift/carry up to 20 pounds.

  • Basic experience with Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms preferred.

  • Strong time-management and organizational skills.

  • Positive attitude, collaborative mindset, reliability, flexibility, and commitment to professionally representing LSC

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Work hours will include evenings and weekends, outdoors in extreme heat and cold

  • Must have reliable mode of transportation to travel to campus locations within the LSC Service Area

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current or former LSC Student or community member with a passion for our college

Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $15.92.
