Job description

Salary: $95,000-105,000 per year

Activate is continuing its rapid North American expansion and is growing its Project Delivery team. Reporting to the Director, Project Delivery, the Project Manager will support the execution of new store builds, phased renovations, and rollout initiatives across Canada and the United States.

This role is highly execution-focused and ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced construction and operational environments. The successful candidate will work closely with landlords, consultants, vendors, contractors, manufacturing, and internal operational teams to help drive projects from lease execution through opening.


The Duties and Responsibilities:


Project Planning


  • Reviews project plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of projects
  • Establishes work plan and multi-disciplinary staffing for each phase of project, and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project team
  • Tender the mechanical, electrical and skilled trades in advance of the build and determine the successful bid for tendered services
  • Working closely with purchasing, manufacturing and distribution teams to ensure the scheduled deliveries and products are scheduled to be on site at the right time
  • Hire sub-contractors and their workforce in preparation of a build and/or retrofit as required
  • Coordinate and track project execution across active store builds and phased renovation projects


Project Management


  • Manages, plans, and coordinates activities of projects to ensure that goals or objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters
  • Works closely with landlords to ensure the project meets their requirements and tracks all necessary requirements to ensure Tenant Improvements are completed and reimbursed
  • Directs and coordinates checklists and activities of the project team to ensure the project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget
  • Collaborates with engineers, architects, city inspectors and city permit offices to prepare each build with the required permits and completed inspections
  • Confers with the project team to provide technical advice and to resolve problems
  • Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required
  • Prepares project reports for management, client, or others
  • Works with general contractors to track progress, own the change management process, and budget
  • Review lease agreements to pull and track pertinent project details
  • Work closely with internal install, manufacturing, and facilities teams to support project readiness and opening timelines
  • Track critical path items including permitting, landlord work, long lead procurement, and vendor scheduling
  • Support GC and vendor coordination to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget
  • Conduct regular project check-ins, site reviews, and progress reporting across multiple concurrent locations
  • Help identify execution risks early and escalate issues proactively


Mentorship


  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to team members
  • Work with the Director, Project Delivery to provide feedback and areas of improvement for the team
  • In collaboration with other team members, help define and iteratively improve on standards and processes
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned


The Qualifications:


  • University Degree or College diploma required; PMP or Prince2 Certified Or CAPM working towards PMP is an asset
  • 5+ years of construction project management experience
  • Heavy resource management skills are required
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, and other MS Office products
  • Must be able to manage several projects at once as well as excellent multitasking abilities
  • Must be able to read architectural and engineering drawings and perform takeoffs for estimating purposes
  • Proactive, highly organized, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment where priorities evolve quickly and multiple projects run concurrently
  • Experience supporting retail, hospitality, entertainment, or multi-site commercial rollout projects is considered an asset
