Computer Forensics Manager information

What does a computer forensics manager do?

A Computer Forensics Manager oversees teams that investigate digital crimes by collecting, analyzing, and preserving electronic evidence. They lead forensic examinations of computers, mobile devices, and networks to support criminal, civil, or internal investigations. In addition to managing casework, they coordinate with law enforcement, ensure adherence to legal protocols, and may testify in court as expert witnesses. Their role is crucial in identifying cyber threats, data breaches, and providing actionable reports for legal proceedings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a computer forensics manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Forensics Manager, you need expertise in digital forensics, cybersecurity, evidence handling, and typically a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with forensic analysis tools like EnCase, FTK, and certification such as GIAC CFCE or CCE is important for credibility and efficiency. Strong leadership, analytical thinking, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for managing teams and presenting findings. These skills ensure effective investigation of digital crimes, accurate evidence management, and successful collaboration with law enforcement and legal teams.

What are some common challenges faced by computer forensics managers, and how can they be addressed?

Computer Forensics Managers often encounter challenges such as managing large volumes of digital evidence, ensuring chain-of-custody integrity, and keeping up with rapidly evolving technologies and cyber threats. Addressing these challenges requires implementing robust evidence management protocols, ongoing training for team members, and fostering collaboration with IT, legal, and law enforcement departments. Additionally, establishing clear communication channels and regularly reviewing case management processes help maintain efficiency and compliance within the team.

This individual will perform technical evaluations, develop detailed reports and design documents, participate in bidding and contractor selection, and provide construction administration and construction observation throughout project execution.
Candidates must demonstrate strong technical knowledge of building envelope assemblies-with a particular emphasis on cladding systems-along with the ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to the continued growth of our envelope team. An IIBEC credential (RBEC, RRC, RWC, REWC, or similar) is strongly preferred.
Estimated salary range for this position is $85,000 to $135,000. The salary listed is an estimate and not guaranteed. The salary offered will vary based on experience, education, skills, abilities, and certifications/license if applicable
Key Responsibilities
Envelope Evaluation & Reporting
  • Perform on-site evaluations of roofs, cladding, fenestration, balconies, waterproofing systems, and related envelope components.
  • Conduct invasive testing, moisture diagnostics, leak investigations, and code-compliance assessments.
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive engineering reports outlining observed conditions, causes of distress, code/manufacturer deficiencies, and recommended repairs.
Design & Specification Development
  • Develop repair and replacement design documents, including plans, details, and CSI-formatted specifications.
  • Coordinate design solutions with internal architecture, structural, MEP, and forensic specialists.
  • Ensure design documents align with current building codes, industry standards (ASTM, AAMA, TMS, ICC), and manufacturer requirements.
Bidding & Contractor Procurement
  • Prepare bid packages and technical scopes of work.
  • Lead pre-bid meetings, respond to bidder RFIs, and assist the client in contractor selection.
  • Provide technical support during pricing evaluation and value-engineering discussions.
Construction Administration & Observation
  • Conduct construction observation visits, prepare field reports, and monitor compliance with design documents.
  • Review submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, change orders, and payment applications.
  • Support the client and contractor through project closeout, punch lists, and final quality verification.
Leadership & Mentoring
  • Serve as a technical resource for building envelope reviews, design development, and QA/QC processes.
  • Mentor junior engineers, architects, and field staff.
  • Assist in developing internal standards training materials, and best-practice procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Science, Construction Technology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5-10+ years of hands-on experience with building envelope evaluations, design, and construction oversight.
  • Strong experience with cladding systems (fiber cement, ACM, stucco/EIFS, adhered masonry veneer, rainscreens, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear technical reports and present findings to boards, managers, and client groups
Preferred Credentials
  • IIBEC certifications (RRC, RWC, REWC, RBEC) highly preferred.
  • Professional licensure (PE, RA, or EIT/AXP in progress) is a plus.
  • Experience with FORTIFIED, façade investigations, or forensic building science is beneficial.
Additional Skills
  • Strong understanding of building codes (IRC/IBC, IEBC, NJ UCC, local amendments).
  • Familiarity with ASTM, AAMA, and TMS standards.
  • Proficiency with CAD or BIM platforms preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project-management skills.
Why Join Falcon
  • Work directly with senior leadership within a fast-growing Building Envelope Division.
  • Opportunity to lead high-visibility façade and envelope projects.
  • Strong mentorship culture, continuing education support, and advancement potential.
  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Comfortable using ladders, lifts, scaffolds, and roof access equipment
