Job description

The PDM System Administrator is responsible for the configuration, integrity, and day-to-day governance of Samco's Product Data Management ecosystem, including Autodesk Vault, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Electrical, CoolOrange integrations, and downstream connections to ERP/MRP/MES systems.

Operating within Samco's engineering and manufacturing environment, this role ensures that CAD models, drawings, Bills of Materials, Engineering Change Orders, and related product records are accurate, controlled, traceable, and accessible to authorized users across engineering, operations, quality, project management, and IT.

The PDM System Administrator manages user access and roles, maintains CAD-to-ERP data integration, administers ECR/ECO workflows, oversees BOM governance, and leads training and continuous-improvement initiatives. The role serves as the technical authority for PDM/PLM system integration/configuration and data standards, supporting the full equipment lifecycle; from concept design through manufacturing, commissioning, field service, and long-term spare-parts documentation, ensuring that the right product data reaches the right people, at the right time, in the right format, and without ambiguity or error.

The PDM System administrator will report directly to Engineering Services Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Manage CAD and PDM software licensing; track utilization, forecast needs, and coordinate renewals and procurements
  • Maintain and periodically test disaster recovery plans, backup procedures, and system restoration protocols to ensure data availability and business continuity
  • Monitor system health and performance; resolve incidents and escalate to vendors when necessary, maintaining an incident log for trend analysis
  • Own the configuration, maintenance, availability, and performance of Autodesk Vault, CoolOrange, and associated PLM tools across all Samco environments (engineering, production, test, archive)
  • Manage software installations, patches, upgrades, and service packs for Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Electrical, Vault, and related utilities; coordinate with Autodesk and third-party vendors as required
  • Administer user accounts, roles, permissions, and access policies within PDM/PLM systems; manage the user access lifecycle including onboarding, role changes, offboarding and full control of Samco international vault replication and vault branch administration
  • Define and enforce product data governance policies including part numbering schemes, naming conventions, file/folder structures, revision control rules, and release-level definitions
  • Control Vault project and folder structures to support workflows, ensuring project-specific data is organized, isolated where required, and accessible to authorized users
  • Conduct periodic data quality audits; identify, document, and remediate data integrity issues across CAD, PDM, and integrated systems (ERP/MRP/MES)
  • Ensure product data practices comply with applicable industry standards, customer contractual requirements, and Samco's quality management system
  • Maintain a controlled document repository for PDM/PLM work instructions, standards, templates, and configuration records
  • Define and own PDM-related KPIs (e.g., data quality index, ECO cycle time, vault utilization, user adoption rates); produce dashboards and periodic reports for engineering and management review

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience administering Autodesk Vault (Professional) in a manufacturing environment, including server configuration, user/role management, lifecycle/workflow design, and troubleshooting
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD Electrical in an administrative or power-user capacity (templates, styles, libraries, Content Center, iLogic)
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience migrating or implementing new CAD and PDM/PLM software systems
