Position Overview

Faculty are essential to Liberty University’s mission of Training Champions for Christ. Faculty should view their teaching, engagement with students, and scholarship as a means to a significant educational end. They should strive to employ a variety of techniques for the development of good learning conditions, view each student as a unique individual, and, insofar as possible, provide for individual differences, abilities, and interests.

The School of Engineering is seeking an Assistant Professor in Computer Engineering to teach courses in the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering Program. The Assistant Professor’s primary role is to teach in their areas of expertise, maintain the integrity of courses and instructional programs, and ensure that their delivery is in alignment with the University mission and vision for the student experience. Faculty are responsible for creating an academic atmosphere of mutual respect and consideration for individual dignity.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in the Computer Engineering Program.
  • Maintain the integrity of courses and instructional programs.
  • Ensure alignment with the University mission and vision.

  • Assist in the development of curriculum in residential and distance education environments.
  • Engage in research, scholarship, or creative activity as expected by their college or school.
  • Perform additional service activities involving students and the professional discipline as required.
Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Expertise in Embedded Systems, Real‑Time Operating Systems, Computer Architecture, Digital Logic, PCB design, and Linux programming.
  • Terminal master’s degree in a relevant area or a professional certificate (e.g., CPA) is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to teach, maintain instructional integrity, and participate in scholarship and service activities.
Teaching Load & Location
  • Full‑time position.
  • Contract periods of 10, 11, or 12 months (30, 33, or 36 load hours respectively).
  • Release from contracted teaching load is determined each semester by the Dean, per the Liberty University Faculty Handbook.
  • Location: Lynchburg, VA – in‑office.
