Job Description:

The Data Engineering Intern will support the development and maintenance of data pipelines and infrastructure that enable data analysis and reporting across DHHS. This role provides exposure to modern data engineering tools and cloud platforms while working alongside experienced engineers to build scalable data solutions.
Location: Onsite in Lincoln, NE

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT) processes under the guidance of experienced data engineers

  • Support the development and maintenance of data pipelines using established tools and frameworks

  • Contribute to data processing tasks using technologies such as SQL, Python, and PySpark

  • Help validate data quality, accuracy, and completeness across datasets

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data-driven solutions

  • Monitor and troubleshoot issues within data pipelines and processing systems

  • Assist with monitoring performance of data workflows during development and production deployments

  • Document data flows, pipeline logic, and implementation details

  • Participate in Agile or project-based team activities such as stand-ups and sprint reviews


Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution) OR recently graduated (within one year) from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field

  • Basic understanding of programming concepts (Python preferred)

  • Familiarity with SQL and database concepts

  • Interest in data pipelines, cloud data platforms, and large-scale data systems

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
