Job description

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Are you looking to get some hands-on, valuable experience in the field of Construction Engineering? Would you like to work in a fun, challenging environment and learn about the natural gas industry? If yes, then we have the opportunity for you! VGS is currently seeking applicants for an internship in the Construction Engineering Department located in South Burlington, VT.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Gain Proficiency in CAD and GIS: Develop skills in CAD drawing by designing distribution gas facilities and as-building new and existing infrastructure. Exposure to GPS data collection and GIS records.
  • Develop Land Surveying Skills: Gain practical experience in land surveying, enhancing understanding of the field.
  • Experience Field Inspection: Participation in field inspections, providing real-world understanding of construction engineering processes.


EXPECTED OUTCOMES:

By the end of the internship, the intern should expect to have:

  • A comprehensive understanding of core Engineering/GIS work.
  • Improved organizational skills.
  • A deeper insight into company culture.
  • Exposure to professional models in the energy/utility space.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIRED SKILLS FOR THIS ROLE?

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a Civil /Mechanical or Chemical Engineering student;
  • Be proficient with CAD and GIS programs;
  • Have strong Microsoft Excel and Word experience;
  • Have Land Surveying training and experience;
  • Have knowledge of basic engineering calculations and principles; and
  • Have a vehicle and valid driverโ€™s license (some field work will be required).

This position will be full-time, 40 hours/week, for the summer from June to the end of August, with the possibility of continuing into the school year for a few hours per week.
