Overview

Omega Technical Services is seeking a highly motivated Construction Engineer 3 to support ongoing operations in Los Alamos, New Mexico. This position plays a vital role in advancing critical mission objectives within a highly regulated and technically demanding environment.

As a trusted partner to government agencies and national laboratories, Omega Technical Services supports some of the nation's most complex and high-impact programs. Through these strategic collaborations, Omega contributes directly to the strength, security, and sustainability of the U.S. Nuclear Security Enterprise.

Responsibilities

The Construction Engineer 3 is responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of construction and maintenance projects are executed in full conformance with the approved Project Documents by monitoring facility maintenance and construction activities. This is accomplished by providing input during scoping, design, execution, and project closeout to ensure baseline documents are accurate, design documents are adhered to, and as-built configurations are verified. Construction Engineers expedite project execution by identifying issues, coordinating technical solutions, and providing timely guidance to the constructor through approved procedures.

Education Requirements

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and 6 years of practical work experience OR 14 years of industry experience. Current registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable.

Qualifications
  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen. 
  • Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a drug and breath alcohol test, along with a Motor Vehicle Record check. 
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of construction engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting field verifications of construction work to oversee, facilitate, and enforce compliance with drawings, specifications, national codes, and standards.
  • Demonstrated expertise in collaborative problem-solving to resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues in the field as the liaison between design engineers and the constructor.
  • Proven ability to suggest, develop, and implement process improvements.
  • Demonstrated skills in multi-disciplinary team building and leadership.
  • Expert knowledge in developing Material Take Offs
  • Expert knowledge in technical codes pertaining to various disciplines, e.g., ASME B31, NEC, ASME AG-1, ACI, etc.
  • Software proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Bluebeam, and CAD software 
  • Physical requirements: must be able to perform physical activities, including climbing, walking, and standing for extended durations.
  • Ability to obtain a Q-clearance 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession of an active DOE/DoD clearance within the past two (2) years is preferred. 
  • Previous DOE/NNSA work experience.
  • Expert organizational skills for field engineering oversight and status updates of multiple simultaneous construction projects.
  • Experienced in independently leading others in your field in the execution of their duties.
  • Experienced in working independently on tasks ranging in complexity.
  • Proven experience mentoring junior Field Engineers and Engineering Technologists in their design review, pre-construction coordination, and construction oversight activities.
  • Proficiency in reviewing engineering submittals and ensuring compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Advanced design and/or construction experience in nuclear, accelerator, laboratory, or industrial facility operations.
  • Expert knowledge of: construction work planning and control methods; facility maintenance and installation techniques; construction principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices.
Work ScheduleA 40 hour work week is scheduled. Client utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10's (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80's (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes Client holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.Why Omega Technical Services?
