Job description

You are a civil designer who is ready to roll up your sleeves and get your hands on projects. You perform best in groups where you know what's expected of you. You're not afraid to ask questions. You have a solid working knowledge with AutoCAD and Civil3D and are eager to join a team that you can contribute to - and receive mentorship and training to continue to advance your CAD and design skills. You want to learn more about CAD production, effective drawing file management, the broader design process, and how a team works together to get projects done.


Binnie is looking for a Civil Designer to join our growing Infrastructure Victoria Division, which delivers infrastructure planning, design and construction services for linear infrastructure (water, storm, sanitary), streets and transportation assignments.


You will work with our friendly and supportive team of experienced Project Managers, Designers, and Engineers on a wide range of projects. You will carry out design work, CAD assignments, site visits, and quality management according to Binnie's Organizational Quality Management Policy (OQM). This role offers great mentorship opportunities.

YOUR ROLE:

  • Preparing design drawings utilizing Civil 3D tools and performing complex tasks including set-up, alignments, profiles, sections, corridors and pipe networks.
  • Complete error-free intermediate-level design calculations and/or verify design calculations prepared by team members.
  • Ensuring quality control procedures are completed as per Binnie's Professional Practice Management Plan.
  • Preparing documentation for design folders and reports.
  • Calculating design quantities for materials and preparation of cost estimates.
  • Prepare complex quantity take-offs, construction specifications, cost estimates and technical reports under the supervision of the EOR.
  • Performing on-site inspection duties as needed.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • A minimum 4-6+ years of experience on projects in a civil consulting engineering environment for Technologist role.
  • Previous experience working with municipal projects (infrastructure, roads, utilities etc.) preferred.
  • Degree or Diploma in engineering technology or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Eligible for future registration as a Registrant with ASTTBC or as a Technician/Technologist with ASET.
  • Valid Driver's License and own vehicle for site visit preferred.
  • Construction Inspection experience would be seen as a plus.
  • proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or other applicable software used in their area of practice.
  • Strong understanding of terminology and application of CAD standards.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients.

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience; the salary range for this position is $62,605 - $106,700 annually.
