Job description


The IT Database Engineer Co-Op supports the Database Engineering team in the administration, maintenance, and optimization of Oracle databases and related technologies. The incumbent will receive exposure to database monitoring, performance tuning, backup and recovery processes, and automation initiatives within an enterprise environment. The incumbent will assist in developing and improving technical platforms, operational processes, and maintenance procedures that enhance system reliability, support business operations, and accelerate application development. This role works collaboratively with cross-functional teams that include developers, data analysts, data scientists, business analysts, and other relevant stakeholders within the organization.
This position will be a Year-Round internship and working onsite at Global Headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio. Working hours approximately a maximum of 27 hours per week with a 12-month commitment.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of database management systems, standards, best practices, and quality assurance processes for database-related deliverables.

  • Support the administration and maintenance of Oracle database environments to ensure security, reliability, availability, and performance.

  • Monitor database health and performance, proactively identifying and escalating issues as needed.

  • Assist with database troubleshooting and problem resolution in collaboration with application and infrastructure teams.

  • Support database patching, upgrades, and security compliance activities in accordance with organizational standards.

  • Help maintain and validate backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures to ensure business continuity.

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance scripts and tools that support database automation, monitoring, and reporting.

  • Document database configurations, operational procedures, technical processes, and system changes to support knowledge sharing and operational consistency.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that enhance database operations, efficiency, and supportability.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, infrastructure engineers, and other stakeholders, to support business and technology objectives.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future.

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.

  • Must be currently enrolled in a university or college degree program actively working toward an Associate's degree or higher in Business Administration, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Systems Management, Mathematics, or Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience preparing and delivering presentations to peers, project teams, or stakeholders.

  • Previous experience working in a team-oriented setting including work experience, extracurricular activities, military service, etc.

  • One (1) year of experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.

  • Previous internship and/or co-op experience within Information Technology (IT) field.

  • Be a rising or current Junior or Senior in college at the start of the Internship.

  • Prior Sherwin-Williams internship or co-op experience.

  • Exposure to or experience working with database management systems such as Oracle.
