Job Description

What’s the User Experience team in our Technology Division? At a time when technology is creating new business models, disrupting industries and creating valuable experiences for consumers, our role as technology team members must elevate an organization through innovative transformation, modernized technology and delivery of new business strategies, including an aim to continuously evolve and enhance the customer experience. The User Experience Team designs intuitive, accessible, and user-centered experiences that help customers achieve their goals efficiently. Through research, design, engineering, testing, and collaboration, the team ensures products are both functional and engaging.

What projects might I support? Although subject to change, examples of projects you will be contributing to include:

  • Provide day to day experiences of collaboration and partnership with various leaders and team members; focus on small scale deliverables, building interpersonal relationships, exposure to cross divisional elements of the Wellmark organization  
  • Assist with the management and troubleshooting of multiple applications in support of Wellmark's systems
  • In collaboration with application operations, assist and work with Technology and business stakeholders to troubleshoot and provide production support to research and find root cause for systems errors
  • Develop business knowledge of the application necessary to effectively provide support maintenance
  • Participate in the development of complex UI artifacts used by multiple development teams
  • Maintain documentation and code examples which describe usage and best practices
  • Work closely with UX Designers, Engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure user experience is integral part of creation process from start to finish
  • Collaborate in a team environment with shared code; disciplined use of source code control and process documentation.

This internship will start in May of 2027, working a hybrid schedule from our headquarters in Des Moines.

Qualifications
  • Current junior, senior or master’s student pursing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS, or related field.
  • Experience or knowledge of software development technologies (Angular, NodeJS, TypeScript, C++, .NET, Java, or SQL).
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills. Accuracy and high attention to detail and self-starter.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and develop creative technical solutions.
  • Demonstrated computer skills with Microsoft Office products (Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel).
  • Ability to gather information, perform necessary research needed for root cause analysis, problem definition and formulation, recommend solution using data to support recommendations.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills to communicate with all levels of the organization. 
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Excellent organizational skills. Strong time management skills with the ability to set and meet established timeframes with little direction, while assuring data and information integrity.

Preferred:

  • Prior work experience in an office environment or internship.
  • Experience in software development lifecycle methodologies.
