Job description

MEP Intern
Halff is actively seeking a Electrical Engineering Intern for our MEP team in McAllen, TX. The Electrical Engineering Intern will assist in electrical engineering, designing, and producing of commercial, Industrial, and Institutional projects. The Mechanical Engineering Intern will assist with work on HVAC and plumbing design projects. The Internship will begin on June 7th, 2027, and conclude on August 13th, 2027. Interns are paid hourly and work full-time (40 hours/week), typically 8a-5p Monday through Friday.
Halff does not pay for or provide housing for Internships.
What you will do:
  • Design Mechanical or Electrical engineering projects under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer
  • Perform drafting CAD work
  • Perform calculations and analysis for design projects
  • Assist in the preparation of permit applications and other regulatory documents
  • Coordinate with other team members, including surveyors, architects, and contractors
  • Attend meetings with clients and regulatory agencies
  • Assist in the planning and preparing of engineered contract documentation for assigned projects, working with a Project Manager to meet deadlines, aiding in engineering decisions, and collaboration with other engineers
  • Assist on projects which may consist of performing and scheduling work, materials, tools, equipment, and information to ensure attainment of scope/project performance and construction schedules
  • (Electrical) Creating electrical project documents, plans, and specifications for robust and reliable electrical/lighting system designs
  • (Mechanical) Assist with work on HVAC and plumbing design projects

What you will need:
  • Pursuing Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or ABET accredited equivalent Engineering degree
  • Experience or familiarity with Revit and AutoCAD is necessary
  • Great communication skills
  • Solid relationship and team building skills
  • Self-motivated and strong organization skills
