Job description

Our mid-West Dallas area client company is searching for a MySQL Database Developer/Administrator to manage MySQL 8.0 and PostgreSQL 15 databases that support large scale application workloads in production and non-production environments. The successful candidate will: be responsible for managing, securing, optimizing, and supporting the organization’s database environments with an emphasis on SQL query development and performance tuning; serve as the primary escalation point for database and data-related issues; work with internal teams to maintain dependable data access across application; ensure the performance, reliability, and security of the data layer while collaborating closely with application engineering teams; partner with customer care to troubleshoot reported problems; and will create and execute operational scripts as required.

Candidates MUST have 3 to 5+ years of hands-on practical experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL relational database systems; have strong knowledge of database design, normalization, indexing strategies, and query optimization; be proficient with MySQL Workbench, pgAdmin, and command-line administrative utilities, and in writing, maintaining, and tuning SQL and PL/pgSQL (or MySQL stored procedures where applicable); have knowledge of schema versioning and migration tools commonly used with Spring Boot; have experience with database backup, restore, point-in-time recovery, and replication; and be proficient with Git for source control and database change management

She/he must further be able to: perform installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching for both MySQL 8.0 and PostgreSQL 15 database platforms; create and maintain MySQL objects, including stored procedures, functions, and views; review and optimize SQL queries, schema designs, and migrations for applications layer; monitor performance, identify bottlenecks and apply tuning strategies; manage backups, restores, disaster recovery, and high availability setups; collaborate with developers on indexing strategy and query patterns; support migration pipelines and implement user access controls, auditing, encryption, and compliance measures;

Candidates must further be able to: automate maintenance and operational workflows using Bash, Python, or MySQL Shell; monitor and tune performance using slow query logs, execution plans, indexing, and server configuration; diagnose database issues affecting microservices and integrations; troubleshoot slow queries, locking, deadlocks, replication lag, and connection pool issues; review and execute approved data modifications from business teams; maintain monitoring dashboards and alerting across both MySQL 8.0 and PostgreSQL 15 database technologies; document database standards, operational procedures, and best practices; and provide documentation, deploy database changes, and participate in production support.

Experience with any of the following are a plus: AWS RDS, Aurora, or other cloud database services; AWS Data Migration Services; Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages; managed cloud database services such as AWS RDS, Azure Database for MySQL/PostgreSQL, or GCP Cloud SQL; Java Spring Boot application architectures, including connection pooling and ORM layers such as Hibernate; Kubernetes, operators, or containerized database patterns; caching tiers such as Redis; basic understanding of Java to trace how queries are generated and invoked; and/or partitioning, logical replication, or performance extensions (e.g., pg_stat_statements).

Candidates must further be comfortable supporting 24×7 production environments and participating in on-call rotations after hours or on weekends during production issues or planned maintenance.

Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or other relevant discipline is preferred, while not required. AWS functional certifications and/or database architecture certifications are also a plus.
