Job description

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking dependable and detail-oriented Mechanical Assembly Technicians for a contract-to-hire opportunity with one of our valued clients in Plano, TX. This position is ideal for candidates who enjoy hands-on work, have mechanical aptitude, and take pride in producing quality products in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The Mechanical Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling manufactured products according to engineering specifications, maintaining quality standards, and supporting production goals while following all safety procedures.

Pay & Schedule

Pay Rate: $19.00 per hour

Available Shifts:

  • 2nd Shift: Monday–Friday | 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM

Location: Onsite – Plano, TX

Required PPE

Candidates must report on their first day wearing approved safety boots, including:

  • Steel Toe or Composite Toe
  • Must cover the ankle
  • Leather style (minimum leather upper)

Candidates who do not arrive with the required footwear may not be permitted to begin work.

Position Summary

The Mechanical Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling machinery, fabricated products, and mechanical or electrical components according to blueprints, schematics, and work instructions. This role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to producing high-quality products while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assemble machinery, fabricated metal products, electrical equipment, and related products according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, assembly instructions, and work orders.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and assembly equipment safely and effectively.
  • Inspect completed assemblies to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
  • Identify and report product inconsistencies or quality concerns to supervision.
  • Maintain production logs, assembly records, and other required documentation.
  • Perform basic maintenance and minor repairs on assembly equipment and conveyors as needed.
  • Monitor inventory of tools, parts, and supplies and notify the Materials Handler when replenishment is required.
  • Support quality control by performing routine product inspections throughout the assembly process.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area following all company safety procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to meet production schedules and customer demands.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by working assigned overtime as business needs require.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other departments to support production goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and assembly instructions.
  • Mechanical aptitude with strong attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, for completing production logs and documentation.
  • Ability to perform basic equipment maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English to understand safety instructions, work assignments, and job-related communications.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed to meet production requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous mechanical or manufacturing assembly experience.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Knowledge of quality control processes and lean manufacturing principles is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods while performing repetitive assembly tasks.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds throughout the workday.
  • Excellent manual dexterity to assemble products and operate hand tools.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to distinguish between colored wires, tabs, labels, and electronic components.
  • Ability to bend, reach, twist, and perform repetitive hand movements throughout the shift.
  • Must wear required PPE, including approved safety footwear, gloves, hearing protection, and other safety equipment as required.
