Position Summary
Performs highly advanced (seniorlevel) systems administration work. Work involves but is not limited to analyzing and assisting management in planning, budgeting, defining specific equipment requirements, installation, and configuration of software, solving technical problems of a moderate to complex nature and working with customers in establishing and maintaining services. Manages multiple tasks of varying complexity and priority for timely completion. May specialize in two or three narrowly defined areas such as Virtual System Administration, Operating Systems, DNS, Firewall, and Security systems. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Establishes and maintains Primary and Secondary Domain Name Services including initial configuration of DNS servers, apply customerrequested changes associated with supplying primary and/or secondary DNS service. Establishes and provides Virtual services utilizing VMWare or similar hypervisor technologies)
  • Aids DIR customers in establishing and modifying their DNS servers including issuing step by step instructions in the proper use of the required configuration nomenclature. Works closely with all agencies to ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded. Responds to on call duties outside normal working hours
  • Assists personnel on Routed Data Network in troubleshooting and resolution of complex technical problems including retrieving various system logs for fault analysis. Analyzes and addresses security issues associated with intrusive and/or destructive attacks against routed data network and attacks against customer hosts; prepares reports on security breaches and recommends changes needing to be taken to prevent further occurrences
  • Participates in design and offering of new services and infrastructures, both physical and virtual. Assists in providing facilities planning for servers within DIR and remote locations, both physical and virtual. Makes site visits and attends project meetings to discuss planning and technical issues impacting the project and the Division; May oversee customer agency web development and implementation
  • Keeps informed of latest developments in virtualization and telecommunications technologies
  • Assists DIR management in development of disaster preparedness strategies on physical and virtual platforms. Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures for the agency use of the intranet and internet services; assists DIR management in setting policies and procedures for network services; Assists management in the preparation of section budgets as required
  • Provides technical assistance to users on software/IOS conflicts and maintains bespoke database management software developed inhouse.
  • Performs other workrelated duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Graduation from an accredited fouryear college or university with major course work in computer science, computer information systems, or management information systems.
  • Two (2) years of additional experience may be substituted for each year of education (High School diploma required).
Experience and Training Required
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in systems analysis and virtual infrastructure design.
  • DNS: Domain Name Systems (BIND9)
  • SMTP: Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (Postfix, Mailman, ClamAV, SpamAssassin, OpenDKIM)
  • UNIX: RedHat/AlmaLinux Operating System architecture, software lifecycles, security practices
  • UNIX: Debian/Ubuntu Operating System architecture, software lifecycles, security practices
  • UNIX: Independent Desktop PC Operation of approved UNIX variant or clone (FreeBSD, Debian, Fedora, etc.)
  • Scripting: Primarily shell (sh, bash), some Perl and PHP, occasional Python
  • Firewalls: nftables/ufw, ipfw/pfsense, IOS firewall/Sourcefire
  • Familiarity with Network and Security Monitoring Tools: SolarWinds/MRTG/ProofPoint EFD, LogStash
