What engineers make $500,000?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum, aerospace, or software engineering with extensive experience and advanced skills can earn $500,000 or more annually. High compensation often involves leadership roles, bonuses, stock options, or working in high-demand industries with complex projects.

Can computer engineers make $500,000?

Computer engineers can potentially earn $500,000 or more annually, especially in senior roles, management, or specialized fields such as software architecture or cybersecurity, often requiring advanced skills, certifications, and experience. High salaries are more common in large tech companies, consulting firms, or executive positions, but such earnings are not typical for entry-level roles.

What does a computer-aided engineer do?

A computer-aided engineer uses software tools to design, analyze, and optimize products or systems, often in engineering fields such as mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering. They work with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) programs to create detailed models, simulations, and technical drawings, supporting the development process and ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior computer-aided engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills in CAD software, and leadership roles can earn $300,000 or more annually, especially in high-demand industries like aerospace, automotive, or defense. Achieving this level often requires advanced degrees, certifications, and a track record of significant project contributions.

What is the difference between Computer Aided Engineer vs Mechanical Design Engineer?

AspectComputer Aided EngineerMechanical Design Engineer
CredentialsEngineering degree, CAD certificationsEngineering degree, CAD certifications
Work EnvironmentDesign software, simulation tools, engineering teamsDesign software, prototype testing, manufacturing settings
Industry UsageEngineering firms, manufacturing, aerospaceAutomotive, machinery, consumer products

Computer Aided Engineers and Mechanical Design Engineers both require engineering degrees and CAD certifications. While Computer Aided Engineers focus on using CAD and simulation tools for analysis and optimization, Mechanical Design Engineers primarily develop and test mechanical components and assemblies. Both roles are integral to product development but differ in their core responsibilities and work environments.

Job description

Ardurra is looking to hire a CAD Production Designer II to join our Water/Wastewater group in Oklahoma City, OK!
Ardurra is a multidisciplinary civil engineering services firm which provides broad-based solutions tailored to the specific needs of the public and private sector. We leverage the depth of our professional and technical expertise, as well as our integrated structure, to deliver practical, innovative solutions for our clients.
We have been creating opportunities for our employees to develop both personally and professionally. As a result, our team has contributed to some of the nation's most important infrastructure projects. These are projects that can positively impact people's lives.
Primary Function
Under general supervision and technical mentorship, the Production Designer II performs moderately difficult to complex drafting and design assignments supporting municipal water and wastewater projects, including pipeline conveyance systems and treatment facilities. This role applies advanced drafting techniques and fundamental design principles using Civil 3D and/or Mechanical CAD platforms, in accordance with company and industry standards.
Assignments are intended to leverage established production skills while expanding exposure to pipeline design, treatment facility layouts, and multi-discipline coordination, allowing continued growth in technical design capability.
Primary Duties
  • Establish design criteria for assigned phases of water and wastewater projects, applying basic engineering principles under the direction of a project engineer
  • Prepare detailed pipeline and facility layout drawings, including unusual or complex designs requiring application of theoretical and practical engineering knowledge
  • Develop plan, profile, and detail drawings for:
    • Waterlines, sanitary sewer, and force mains
    • Pipeline appurtenances, structures, and specialty details
    • Treatment plant civil and/or mechanical layouts, piping arrangements, and site plans
  • Determine material quantities and perform supporting calculations using accepted formulas, references, and design standards
  • Provide design sketches, redlines, and technical guidance to lower-level design and drafting staff for preparation of finished drawings
  • Review and check work performed by junior production staff to ensure technical accuracy and adherence to standards
  • Support field assignments and may lead field walkdowns, coordinating with engineers to verify existing conditions and constructability
  • Regularly interface with engineers, project managers, clients, vendors, and internal disciplines to support coordinated project delivery
  • Assist project engineers with related technical tasks, such as:
    • Compiling and computing engineering data
    • Assisting with specifications and technical memoranda
    • Supporting cost estimating and quantity takeoffs
  • Assist with drawing schedules, task assignments, and workload coordination for assigned design tasks
  • Provide conceptual input during project planning stages for pipeline routing, layout alternatives, and facility configuration
  • Perform discipline-specific design tasks and utilize required software tools as directed by management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of advanced CAD drafting and fundamental design concepts related to water and wastewater pipelines and treatment facilities
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D for pipeline layout, profiles, pipe networks, and surfaces, and/or Mechanical CAD tools for treatment plant piping and equipment layouts
  • Ability to prepare and interpret complex design drawings, calculations, and sketches
  • Knowledge of industry design standards and municipal specifications applicable to water and wastewater infrastructure
  • Ability to independently complete assigned design tasks while coordinating closely with engineers and project teams
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor or guide junior technical staff on drafting and design tasks
  • Strong communication, organization, and coordination skills across multi-discipline teams

Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or Technical Certificate in Drafting, CAD, or related field preferred
  • Proven mastery of Production Designer I duties and 2 or more years of Production Designer experience
  • 6-8 years of related industry experience, with 2-4 years performing design-level work preferred
  • Strong proficiency with applicable CAD applications (e.g., Civil 3D, Revit, Mechanical CAD), as required for pipeline and/or treatment projects
  • Proficiency with internal CAD standards and industry design practices; applicable CAD certifications preferred
  • Strong understanding of industry design standards and specifications related to water and wastewater infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or mentor technical staff at a task or project-component level
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
