Job description

About the Role:

The CAD/BIM Operator is responsible for producing accurate, high-quality technical drawings and models in support of VDA’s Design Services department. This role supports project managers, engineers, and consultants by creating 2D sketches and layouts, and 3D models of vertical transportation equipment. The CAD/BIM Operator ensures drawings comply with internal standards and project requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Create 2D drawings of vertical transportation elements (primarily elevators and escalators), utilizing AutoCAD software and VDA standards
    • Drawings include plans, sections, elevations, and details
  • Create 3D models of vertical transportation systems, utilizing Revit software
  • Coordinate BIM models with architectural firms and other trades
  • Produce plan and section sheets from BIM models
  • Revise 2D CAD drawings and 3D BIM models based on redlines, sketches, and direction from the consultants
  • Coordinate drawing content with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical backgrounds
  • Maintain drawing accuracy, consistency, and version control throughout the project lifecycle
  • Assist with the preparation of design submission packages
  • Gather research data from manufacturers
  • Support standardization efforts including templates, blocks, layers, and drafting procedures
  • Organize and maintain project files in accordance with company document control practices
  • Communicate effectively with internal team members to clarify scope, deadlines, and technical input
  • Perform other drafting and design-support tasks as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Drafting, Design Technology, or a related field
  • 2–5 years of professional CAD drafting experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in Revit and BIM Collaboration Tools
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards, layering conventions, and document coordination
  • Working knowledge of load calculations.
    • Must be able to recognize when calculated load outputs are unreasonable or orders of magnitude outside expected values.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of engineering/design experience with BIM/Revit
  • Knowledge of the AIA defined design phases and their associated deliverables
  • Current experience in the vertical transportation industry
