Position Overview: Altus Engineering is currently seeking an Aeroballistics Research Engineer to support experimental and analytical efforts related to the launch and free-flight behavior of projectiles and munitions

Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, develop, and execute experimental programs to assess and quantify aeroballistics phenomena associated with the free flight of projectiles and munitions.
• Conduct engineering analysis to support weapon concept development and provide physics-based explanations of observed behaviors during launch and flight.
• Perform testing across a range of systems including small, medium, and large caliber weapons, man-portable systems, optics, signature suppression devices, and ammunition concepts.
• Develop and implement experimental techniques and instrumentation to measure physical phenomena associated with launch and flight.
• Apply statistical methods and error analysis to assess data quality and ensure accuracy of results.
• Develop and utilize computer-based techniques for processing and analyzing large datasets.
• Apply principles of aerodynamics, flight mechanics, heat transfer, and acoustics to predict and quantify projectile behavior.
• Conduct modeling and simulation using engineering tools such as CAD software, preliminary design tools, and trajectory simulation programs.
• Support development of new and innovative weapon system concepts to improve aeroballistics performance.
• Prepare and present technical reports, briefings, and documentation
• Present findings to stakeholders, research organizations, and other technical audiences as required.
Qualifications/Desired Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline with 4+ years of relevant experience, OR
• Master's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience, OR
• PhD in a relevant discipline with 0+ years of experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET Security Clearance
• Experience or academic background in ballistic testing, experimentation, or engineering analysis related to projectile or munition systems.
• Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) tools (e.g., SolidWorks) and understanding of CAD best practices.
• Experience with data analysis tools such as MATLAB, Mathematica, or LabVIEW.
• Knowledge of aerodynamics, flight mechanics, and related physical principles.
• Familiarity with statistical analysis, data collection, and test and evaluation methodologies.
• Ability to work with large datasets and apply analytical techniques to derive meaningful insights.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce technical documentation and presentations.
