Job description

CAD Detailer (Production Design)

Location: Northbridge, MA

Compensation: $70,000- $80,000- commensurate with experience.

Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated CAD Detailer to play a critical role in transforming creative exhibit concepts into real-world, buildable structures.

This position sits at the intersection of design and production—taking pre-developed 3D concepts and translating them into accurate, production-ready drawings used for fabrication.

While this is not a traditional design or engineering role, it requires strong practical problem-solving and build-focused thinking. The ideal candidate understands how things are physically constructed and can contribute ideas that improve feasibility, durability, and execution.

This is a hands-on, fast-paced role where success is defined by your ability to deliver accurate work quickly in support of production timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate conceptual 3D exhibit designs into detailed, production-ready CAD drawings and models
  • Develop structural layouts including dimensions, materials, connection points, and hardware specifications
  • Prepare part files for CNC cutting and fabrication
  • Collaborate closely with designers to ensure design intent is maintained while improving buildability
  • Provide input and suggestions on design adjustments to enhance functionality, efficiency, and structural integrity
  • Partner with carpentry, production, and warehouse teams to support execution
  • Revise drawings based on real-time feedback, timelines, and production needs
  • Ensure all work is accurate, feasible, and optimized for fabrication and assembly

Required Qualifications

  • Strong experience with 3D CAD modeling (AutoCAD or similar required)
  • Proven ability to translate conceptual designs into buildable structures
  • Experience working with wood and/or metal fabrication (wood preferred)
  • Familiarity with CNC file preparation and manufacturing processes
  • Hands-on understanding of construction, fabrication, or production environments
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under tight deadlines
  • Stable work history with demonstrated commitment in prior roles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in trade shows, exhibits, or temporary structures (highly preferred)
  • Background in millwork, custom woodworking, or similar fabrication industries
  • Experience with permanent installations (e.g., museums, corporate interiors, retail environments)
  • Experience preparing part files for CNC cutting
  • Prior collaboration with both creative/design and production teams
  • Additional experience with metal fabrication is a plus

What We’re Looking For

  • Candidates with direct exhibit or trade show experience are ideal
  • Candidates without exhibit experience will be considered if they have strong 3D modeling and fabrication knowledge
  • Experience in adjacent industries (millwork, museum exhibits, permanent installs, interiors) is highly transferable
  • A practical, build-focused mindset—someone who understands how designs come to life physically
  • Someone who can contribute ideas and solutions—not just execute instructions
