The Opportunity

At JBT Marel, we're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to design, test, and evaluate mechanical systems for food equipment machinery. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to define customer needs, develop new features, and ensure designs meet specifications. Key responsibilities include CAD layouts, DFMEA, cost estimations, and solving mechanical field problems. You'll also collaborate with manufacturing, sourcing, and suppliers to optimize the cost/value relationship of our designs.

This position is located within Des Moines, IA .

Responsibilities:

Main Tasks

  • Work in teams on the development of concepts, testing, investigation and verification of designs
  • Pay attention to the implementation of the function, cleaning aspects, reliability, safety, production technologies and cost price
  • To build the maintenance and mechanical design of machinery, layouts, assemblies and components, to fulfill the design and requirements, to prepare assembly/detail drawings and part lists
  • Work on the mechanical deliverables according to plan
  • Make sure that the work is carried out following Company guidelines (MEDS) and international standards
  • Part of the role can be to delegate tasks to engineering partners

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of relevant production technics, materials and components
  • Knowledge of the food processing industry requirements
  • Experience with mechanics and industrial automation
  • Understand the value of the reuse of others' ideas, standardization and modularization
  • Strong communication skills; work with customers, vendors and co-workers in a courteous and tactful manner
  • Problem solver who works well under time constraints and with possible production setbacks
  • Enjoy learning and researching
  • Ability and interest in working with a multicultural company.
  • Is a team player that enjoys working with people and deals well with feedback

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical Technology or comparable work experience and knowledge
  • Experience with or knowledge of 3D design tools
  • Experience with and comfort working in multi-cultural, multi-discipline organization
  • 5+ years of experience in automatic, industrial food processing equipment or similar fields in product development is a nice to have.
  • Proficiency in CAD systems such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Creo, or similar.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude through hands-on experience in design, testing, or troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and product development processes.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and engineering principles to solve complex problems.
  • Familiarity with lifecycle management of design data, including CAD models, drawings, and ECNs.

Travel & Location

  • You will be onsite and travel up to 70% of the time.
