Job description

Summary:

Provides communication and administrative support between hospital and internal/external customers for the patient conveyance area by using interventional and critical thinking skills.  Ensures continuous and effective service of the patient conveyance system.  In general terms, is the first point of contact for internal and external customers.

Responsibilities:

1. Receives incoming calls from customers; prioritizes, dispatches and follows up to completion.
2. Evaluates all potential problems and situations from incoming phone calls or from the monitoring of all computer-aided dispatch management systems and other related communication mediums.
3. Provides clerical support to the EMS administration i.e. schedules meetings, reports and tracks incident reports, employee absences, assist with shift coverages.
4. Maintains situational awareness and notifies EMS administration of specific and evolving situations in the community (high impact events)
5. Contributes to continuous performance improvement activities.
6. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
7. Answer all incoming telephone calls and route calls promptly as appropriate within the service.
8. Maintain two-way radio communication with all field staff, operate the computer aided dispatch (CAD) equipment
9. Book, document all emergent and non-emergent requests for service.
10. Relay requests for service to appropriate resources.
11. Track and strategically deploy all transportation resources with CAD, maintain equipment within the communications center
12. May participate in orientation of new employees.
13. Recommends change and provides feedback to supervisory staff to ensure smooth operation of the system.
14. Maintains communications center in neat condition.
15. Maintain an ample amount of the appropriate paper work copies from the master book needed for ambulance and wheelchair calls. 
16. Contact all facilities for the next day to verify scheduled trips.  This verification is to include the location of pick up, drop off location, wheelchair needed, bariatric etc.

17. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. 
18. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Skills Experience:

Emergency Medical Technician training and certification.   

High School graduate, or equivalent, with a minimum of 6 months as a dispatcher in a relevant field. (EMS /Clinical background is preferred).

Tech-savvy with knowledge of computer aided dispatch software (CAD). Advanced data entry skills. Knowledge of procedures and guidelines for emergency situations. Proficient in English 9 oral and written). Outstanding organizational and multitasking abilities. Active listener with excellent communication skills. Sound judgment and critical thinking.

Working Conditions:
