Job description

Job Title: CAD Designer I - Fire Alarm System Designer
Location: Elmhurst, IL
The CAD Designer is an important member of the Fox Valley Fire & Safety Co. CAD Design team. We are seeking a talented CAD designer with experience in designing Fire Protection Systems, specifically Fire Alarm Systems. Experience with designing Fire Alarm Systems layout is ideal. FVF&S Co. will assist the Designer in obtaining NICET certification, which is highly respected in our industry.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Review construction contract documents and coordinate with the Sales Team to gather essential information for designing fire alarm systems.
  • Design layouts for fire alarm systems across various structures.
  • Occasionally, conduct field surveys to identify code issues and develop solutions.
  • Attend coordination and job progress meetings.
  • Create stock listings for system components for the project submittal and installation.
  • Ensure smooth handoff of job information between FVFS departments.
  • Produce drawings and calculations for authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), owners, architects, engineers, and insurance companies.
  • Identify project scope changes impacting cost, schedule, and labor.
  • Foster positive relationships with the Sales Team to ensure their expectations are met.
  • Maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with Fox Valley Fire and Safety staff.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Read and interpret construction blueprints effectively.
  • Stay self-motivated and prioritize tasks to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Adhere to safety rules and demonstrate good work habits.
  • Follow company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:
  • 1-3 years minimum experience in CAD Engineering, preferably in the Fire Alarm & Life Safety field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of building codes.
  • NICET Certification I is a plus and/or willingness to pursue NICET Certification is desired.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and reference check.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Physical Requirements: This role is office based and the individual will primarily work at their desk/computer. Walking, bending, typing, standing are typical movements for this office position. This role also includes potential field work and at times may have the employee visit a build site - regular safety protection wear will be required.
