Job description

The job:

As our Design Drafter, you will read and interpret plans, specifications, engineering sketches, and drawings to create accurate CAD files for custom control systems. You will follow company standards and guidelines to develop drawings that may include system overviews and interconnections, cabinet and panel layouts, electrical equipment layouts, electrical circuits, ladder logic, legends, indexes, and project revision information.

You will also help prepare the drawing files and documentation needed for engineering submittals, bills of materials, production books, shop drawings, as-built and as-installed documentation, and operation and maintenance manuals. Your work will play an important role in helping Engineering, Production, and Project teams stay aligned from design through final documentation.

In addition to completing CAD project tasks, you will help plan, assign, and prioritize CAD work to support project schedules and team needs. You will also maintain proper project documentation, support archiving and reference database activities, and complete other related duties as directed by management.

The skills, education, and experience you need:

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • Understanding of electrical drawings, panel layouts, circuits, ladder logic, control systems and UL 508A.
  • Familiarity with the Water/Wastewater industry and controls systems.
  • Experience creating and modifying CAD drawings, preferably in an engineering, manufacturing, electrical, or control panel environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, engineering sketches, and technical drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, complete documentation.
  • Ability to follow company standards, design guidelines, and project requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and support multiple projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Engineering, Production, Project Management, and other internal teams.
  • Experience maintaining project files, documentation, archives, and reference materials.
  • A proactive, team-oriented approach with the ability to work independently when needed.

Qualified candidates will typically have 3–5 years of related CAD drafting experience and a two-year degree in CAD drafting, graphic design, design technology, engineering technology, electrical technology, or a related field.
