Job description

Description
About us:
Founded in Brooklyn in 1918 by Robert Lee Johannsen, Lee Spring has grown into a global manufacturer with locations across the U.S., Europe, Latin America, and Asia - stocking more than 25,000 catalog products alongside custom-engineered solutions. If you want ownership over real parts that turn into real products, this is where you'll find it.
If you're looking for a special place to build or grow your career, you've found it. Since 1918, Lee Spring has been the trusted name behind the springs and formed wire components that quietly make other people's products work - from Brooklyn to more than 100 countries worldwide. As a Design Engineer, you'll be the technical bridge between what a customer imagines and what our factory floor can build.
The Design Engineer turns customer requirements into manufacturable spring and wire form solutions - performing design analysis on new and existing products, developing accurate cost and pricing quotations, and staying engaged as a technical resource through every stage of the design process, from first sketch to final part.
What You'll Do:
Design & Technical Analysis
  • Design compression, extension, and torsion springs, wire forms, and flat metal components to customer specifications
  • Perform design analysis on new and existing product configurations using 2D/3D CAD tools
  • Develop bills of materials (BOM) and corresponding manufacturing cost estimates

Customer & Sales Partnership
  • Work alongside internal and external sales teams to support prospects and existing accounts
  • Guide new product ideas through prototyping, testing, and customer approval
  • Refine designs collaboratively with customers to balance performance, cost, and manufacturability

Production Support
  • Partner with the Production Scheduling team to keep projects moving from design through delivery
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that surface during production
  • Ensure customer satisfaction is maintained from initial concept through final shipment

Challenges You'll Navigate
  • Balancing a customer's ideal design against what's realistic to manufacture at scale
  • Producing quotes that are fast enough to win business and accurate enough to protect margin
  • Keeping design intent intact as a part moves from CAD file to coiling machine

Qualifications
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • 2-4 years of experience spanning engineering and sales-facing work
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software and strong Excel skills
  • Comfort working directly with customers to solve technical problems in real time
  • Some U.S. positions require ITAR compliance and U.S. Person status - confirm with the specific location
