Job Summary

TheElectrical Engineer III performs advanced professional electrical engineeringwork in support of oceanographic research, autonomous marine systems, andemerging ocean technologies. The position is responsible for designing,developing, integrating, testing, and evaluating electrical and electronicsystems for uncrewed and stationary ocean monitoring platforms. The incumbentanalyzes electrical power systems, develops and evaluates embedded electronicsand instrumentation, prepares test plans, and assesses system performance tosupport research and operational objectives. Working with a high degree ofindependent judgment, the position collaborates with multidisciplinary teams todevelop innovative engineering solutions and ensure the reliable operation ofmission-critical marine systems.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • 1. Design, develop, and test electrical and electronic equipment, systems, and components.
  • 2. Analyze the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in uncrewed oceanographic equipment/vessels.
  • 3. Analyze and recommend renewable energy sources for use in uncrewed oceanographic equipment/vessels.
  • 4. Evaluate instrument capabilities based on mission requirements and make recommendations on instruments best suited for any specific study or test to be performed.
  • 5. Integrate instruments into autonomous vehicles based on available space and power to maximize performance while limiting design modifications to avoid degradation of equipment performance.
  • 6. Develop test plans and participate in test and evaluation of systems and vehicles and perform analysis of data collected.
  • 7. Design Electronics & Embedded Systems used in uncrewed oceanographic equipment/vessels. Utilize Computer Aided (CAD) design software, SOLIDWORKS experience is a plus.
  • 8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor'sdegree from an accredited college or university in electrical engineering or aclosely related engineering field; and six to nine (6-9) years of experience. US Citizenwith a Valid Driver’s License is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, electrical systems, power distribution, embedded electronics, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering data, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Ability to develop test plans, evaluate system performance, analyze technical data, and recommend engineering solutions.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise technical documentation, including test plans, engineering reports, research findings, and customer deliverables.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to engineers, scientists, customers, and other stakeholders through written reports and oral presentations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize assignments, and work independently while exercising sound engineering judgment.
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and other engineering software applications.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to support research, testing, and operational objectives.
Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited college oruniversity in Electrical Engineering with ten (10) or more years’experience. Hands-on experience withocean observing instrumentation and/or remote vehicle operations.
