About the Opportunity
This is for two (2) open positions with Toledo Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.
This role is responsible for the mapping, records, and engineering design work for the Distribution function of the Company.
The Estimating and Design Representative meets with Toledo Edison customers and stakeholders, makes field surveys, applies standards and policies, prepares cost estimates, construction drawings and bills of material for installing and removing materials for less complex construction projects such as services to residential, small commercial and industrial customers, street and area lighting projects involving the extension, upgrading or relocating of overhead and underground distribution facilities, minor system upgrades and voltage regulation and overloads.
The reporting locations for these on-site positions are the Holland Operation Center in Holland, Ohio, and the Lindsey Service Center in Lindsey, Ohio.
Responsibilities include:
  • Demonstrating and directing a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
  • Preparing and maintaining specialized electrical schematic drawings such as Transmission, Network, and UCD system circuits using AutoCAD. Reconciling connectivity and attributes with geographical information system (GIS), other records systems, and actual installations.
  • Gathering information for installations by performing a field investigation which identifies measurements, terrain, assesses conditions, buildings, equipment clearances and obstacles.
  • Developing and manipulating GIS queries of data for investigations, special projects, and statistical analysis.
  • Coaching and assisting operations services personnel to resolve issues with GIS, AutoCAD, and GIS View systems.
  • Receiving, processing, and filing all incoming records.
  • Calculating various customer load information required for service design.
  • Supporting job progress through customer contacts, field work, job packages, and job closeout functions including material review and paperwork verification.
  • Facilitating billing functions for line extension and applicable relocation work, including billing recommendations in non-routine scenarios.
  • Facilitating completion of outage management system (OMS) follow-up requests, inspection and maintenance repairs, streetlight installation and replacement, claims, Transmission priority repairs, aerial patrol findings, and Job & Contracting (J&C) projects.
  • Acquiring permits related to railroad, Ohio Department of Transportation, and municipality road right-of-way.
  • Collaborating with customers to secure and document easements for line extensions and highway relocation work.
  • Updating and maintaining compliant records to support technical reports, metrics, and information systems.
  • Traveling to various off-site locations as required, including FirstEnergy offices, training facilities, and customer sites.

Qualifications
  • Two to four-year degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline and 0-1 years related work experience are required.
  • OR high school diploma or equivalent and minimum 2 years related work experience are required. Related work experience includes knowledge of planning/scheduling of work, construction and maintenance practices, procedures, work methods, materials, equipment and tools which would be used to determine the resources necessary to perform construction and maintenance work activities.
  • Demonstrated post-secondary, accredited college / university completion of these courses is required:
    • CAD / AutoCAD or drafting course
    • Engineering courses with a focus on AC and DC electricity fundamentals
    • Math - Pre-Calculus or higher
  • Develops knowledge of National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and National Electric Code (NEC), and Customer Guide for Electric Services (CGES).
  • Understands the Company's Accident Prevention Handbook and Manual of Operations and its practical application in the workplace.
  • Self-motivated and able to balance competing priorities.
  • Provides quality customer service, both internally and externally.
  • Possesses solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experienced with PC software applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.), Outlook, SAP, GIS, CREWS, and database query tools.

The starting pay for this union role is $36.34 per hour. Wage increases are based on performance to contracted standards and certain time lengths.
