Job description

JOB SUMMARY
Prepares detailed designs, redesigns or modifications of parts, assemblies, or other mechanical tooling. Exercises considerable judgment and discretion in designing and documenting a design, including limited design analysis. Operates with minimal supervision and design support. Utilizes computer aided design techniques to perform applicable design and drafting work.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design/CAD programming work to show tolerance dimensions, follow accepted drafting standards and calculations, and provide all shop drawings and paperwork.
  • Converts customer requirements into workable tooling, and conceives most efficient method of manufacturing.
  • May utilize computer aided drafting techniques to perform other design duties as required.
  • Design work requires use of independent problem-solving skills and technical experience.
  • Completes and distributes all appropriate instructions, drawings, and other design paperwork.
  • Provide technical guidance, responsible for verifying accuracy of detail layouts and design work of others.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 2 year technical (CAD) training or equivalent work experience
  • Plus 2 years CAD/Design work experience
  • 3 to 5 years Solid works experience.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize general drafting standards in making CAD designs
  • Knowledge of various machining and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of forming and progressive tooling helpful
  • Strong leadership potential

  • Technical math; up through trigonometric functions.
 
MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND WORK AIDS
  • Computer, SolidWorks, copy machines, and other office machinery.
