Position Overview

Northwood Industries is a modern precision machining company seeking a dependable, motivated, and detail-oriented professional. This role bridges the gap between customer concepts and our production floor. It is ideal for an experienced machine shop estimator or designer who wants a hands-on, high-impact role. Our ideal candidate is safety-conscious with practical mechanical aptitude, blueprint proficiency, and strong problem-solving skills.


Key Responsibilities

  • Job Estimating & RFQs: Review customer blueprints, 3D models, and material specifications to accurately estimate labor, tooling, and machining costs.
  • CAD Design & Optimization: Use SolidWorks to modify 3D models, update manufacturing prints, and optimize designs for efficient CNC machining.
  • Product Development: Execute reverse engineering projects, create new component designs from concept, and manage quality control processes (FAIR, PPAP).
  • Project Management: Track customer accounts and monitor project timelines from quote to final delivery.
  • Technical Customer Support: Serve as the main point of contact for customers to clarify design intents, resolve print discrepancies, and update project statuses.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Technical Software: Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD modeling software.
  • Print Reading: Understanding of blueprints, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and material types.
  • Machining Literacy: General knowledge of CNC milling/turning, setups, and tolerances.
  • Experience: 3+ years of practical machine shop experience doing estimating, quoting, or design.
  • Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree in a related discipline is beneficial.
  • Soft Skills: Confident verbal and written communication skills to interface with customers and machinists.
