We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) CAD Technician with strong experience in OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD Civil 3D, along with hands-on exposure to underground utilities. This role will support SUE investigations, utility coordination, and civil design projects, working closely with field crews, surveyors, and project managers.
  • Process utility field data

  • Prepare digital test hole reports and inventory sheets
  • Work with survey files and field-collected data
  • Support the SUE project team, including records research
  • Assist with creating and editing CAD drawings related to subsurface utilities and pothole investigations
  • Utilize client-provided CAD files as base drawings while maintaining file integrity and standards
  • Import, organize, and manage external CAD files and survey data
  • Apply company and client drafting standards
  • Update drawings based on plans, field sketches, utility markouts, and client feedback
  • Maintain organized project folders and clean CAD file structures
  • Communicate with project staff to clarify scope, base files, and permitting requirements
  • Coordinate with field crews, surveyors, and project managers
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of CAD deliverables and test hole deliverables
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years of in-office CAD experience
  • Experience working in fast-paced environments and willingness to work overtime when necessary to meet project schedules
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Experience with MicroStation / OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Ability to read and understand roadway plans, construction plans, utility as-builts, and utility record drawings
  • Basic knowledge of utility types
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to work within existing CAD files provided by clients or consultants
  • General understanding of drawing scale, layouts, and plotting
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Willingness to learn survey interpretation and utility mapping concepts
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to ask questions when requirements are unclear
  • Knowledge of Subsurface Utility Engineering standards (ASCE 38)
  • Familiarity with MicroStation environments
  • Ability to perform limited field verification when needed
  • Experience working with underground utilities such as water, sewer, storm, gas, electric, or telecommunications
