Position Overview
CAD Administrator
Vail Public Safety Communications Center (VPSCC)
Expected Hiring Range: $40-$52 per hour
Help power the technology behind public safety in one of the nation's premier mountain communities.
The Vail Public Safety Communications Center (VPSCC) is seeking a CAD Administrator to lead the administration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and its connected technologies. This position plays a critical role in ensuring dispatchers and first responders have reliable, accurate, and efficient technology to support emergency response throughout Eagle County.
As the CAD Administrator, you'll serve as the subject matter expert for our CAD environment, working closely with dispatch personnel, public safety agencies, Information Technology, GIS, vendors, and regional partners. You'll manage system configuration, troubleshooting, upgrades, reporting, data integrity, and training while helping evaluate and implement new technologies that improve emergency communications.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, collaborating across multiple agencies, and making a direct impact on public safety.
Skills / Requirements
We're looking for someone who brings a blend of technical expertise, analytical thinking, and a commitment to exceptional public service.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible technical support experience in a public safety communications or dispatch environment.
  • Experience administering or supporting Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
  • Strong understanding of CAD workflows, system configuration, troubleshooting, and data management.
  • Ability to analyze system performance, identify data integrity issues, and implement effective solutions.
  • Experience working with software vendors and coordinating system maintenance, upgrades, and technical support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and partner agencies.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and respond effectively in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments to support critical system operations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Emergency Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • CAD Administrator certification or equivalent training.
  • Current CAD System Subject Matter Expert (SME) coursework.
  • Experience with Records Management Systems (RMS).
  • GIS experience within public safety or local government environments.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS/ArcView or other mapping technologies.

Culture / Lifestyle / Benefits
Serve a Community That Values Excellence
At the Town of Vail, your work directly supports the safety of residents, visitors, first responders, and partner agencies throughout Eagle County. Every improvement you make helps emergency responders perform at their best when seconds matter.
Work Alongside Exceptional Professionals
Join a collaborative team that includes dispatchers, police officers, firefighters, IT professionals, GIS specialists, and regional public safety partners who share a commitment to innovation, teamwork, and outstanding service.
Mountain Lifestyle
Live and work in one of Colorado's most iconic mountain communities. Whether your passion is skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, fishing, or simply enjoying the outdoors, Vail offers an unmatched year-round lifestyle.
Comprehensive Benefits
The Town of Vail offers an outstanding total rewards package, including:
  • Competitive salary
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Generous paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays
  • Colorado PERA retirement and supplemental retirement savings opportunities
  • Employer-paid life and disability insurance
  • Employee wellness programs
  • Professional development and training opportunities
  • Tuition assistance
  • Employee housing resources (subject to availability)
  • A supportive culture that values innovation, collaboration, and work-life balance

Join us in supporting the technology that helps protect one of Colorado's most vibrant communities. If you're passionate about public safety technology and thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven environment, we'd love to hear from you.
