Job description

Our New Teammate

The GIS / Fiber Asset Management & CAD Specialist is a critical technical role responsible for accurate documentation, management, analysis, and design support of fiber-optic network assets. This position serves as the backbone of our customers’ network intelligence, ensuring that every strand of fiber, splice point, and termination panel is accurately recorded, spatially referenced, and accessible. Beyond asset management, this role provides essential CAD and design support to Outside Plant Engineers, translating engineering intent into construction-ready drawings and accurate permanent records.

The data and drawings maintained and produced by this role directly impact network reliability, emergency response time, construction execution quality, and the long-term strategic value of a customer’s fiber infrastructure investment.

You can expect to spend your time accomplishing the following:

  • 45% of the time on Objective 1:Fiber Asset Management & GIS Data Engineering
  • 25% of the time on Objective 2: CAD Production & OSP Engineering Support
  • 15% of the time on Objective 3: Network Operations & Emergency Break/Fix Support
  • 15% of the time on Objective 4: Quality Control & Data Integrity


Job Responsibilities – What to Expect

  • Manage and maintain fiber optic network asset records across enterprise asset management platforms and GIS environments, ensuring strand-level accuracy and data integrity across all active network records
  • Create, update, and translate field redline as-built construction plans into accurate CAD and GIS representations serving as the permanent record of the fiber network
  • Develop and produce construction-ready CAD drawings, including fiber optic route plans, plan-and profile drawings, splicing schematics, and termination assignments in support of Engineering and Project teams
  • Provide direct CAD and GIS production support to Engineers during active fiber design, permitting, and construction projects
  • Service as the subject matter expert on fiber asset location, strand availability, and network topology in support of field crews, engineers, project managers, and customers
  • Analyze and process OTDR fiber test results
  • Support emergency fiber break/fix response by rapidly delivering accurate asset data and fault location intelligence to field crews and NOC personnel to minimize network restoration time
  • Gather, process, and integrate PGS field data for all fiber network assets
  • Perform quality control reviews of CAD deliverables and GIS asset records to verify compliance with company CAD standards and customer specifications


Your Knowledge & Expertise

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Civil Engineering Technology, Information Technology, or a related technical field (preferred)
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • Esri Technical Certification
    • Autodesk Certified User
    • Esri Enterprise GIS Certification
  • GIS Platform Operations – 2+ years
  • CAD Production (AutoCAD or MicroStation) – 2+ years
  • Fiber Optic Network Documentation or Asset Management – 1-3 years (plus)
  • OSP/Telecom – 1-3 years
  • Fiber Testing (OTDR/Power Meter) – Preferred but not required
  • Ability to create, edit, and manage feature classes, attribute tables, and spatial relationships within ArcGIS or equivalent platform
  • Experience importing, exporting, and translating data between GIS formats including shapefiles, geodatabases, KMZ/KML, and CAD formats
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Map 3D and/or MicroStation for 2D technical drawing production
  • Ability to read, interpret, and accurately redline construction drawings, route maps, and engineering plans
  • Understanding of Outside Plant fiber optic network components
  • Understanding of fiber asset data modeling concepts including cable records, splice records, circuit routing, and strand assignment
