CAD Technician (Civil 3D required)

Location: Smyrna, GA
Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 per year
Job Type: Full-Time

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated CAD Technician to join our growing engineering team in Smyrna, GA. This position supports civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering projects through the preparation of technical drawings, utility coordination exhibits, construction documents, and project deliverables.  The day-to-day is building existing-ground surfaces from civil drawings and PDFs, generating profiles and cross-sections, and annotating utility conflicts (water, electric, gas) to confirm soil nails and anchors clear them.

The ideal candidate will have a strong civil engineering or land surveying background and advanced experience using Civil 3D to develop surfaces, profiles, and cross-sections. Experience with utility conflict annotation, digitizing, and quantity takeoffs from PDFs and civil plans is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, modify, and maintain engineering drawings and construction plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Create and manage Civil 3D surfaces, profiles, alignments, and cross-sections.
  • Update redlined drawings and prepare accurate as-built plans.
  • Develop technical drawings from sketches, survey data, engineering concepts, and design criteria.
  • Perform digitizing and quantity takeoffs from PDFs, survey documents, and civil engineering drawings.
  • Identify, annotate, and document utility conflicts and coordination issues on project plans.
  • Generate project layouts and construction exhibits for engineering teams.
  • Coordinate drafting activities with engineers, surveyors, and project managers.
  • Ensure drawings comply with company standards and project requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement of drafting workflows and CAD standards.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of CAD drafting experience in civil engineering, land development, transportation, utilities, or land surveying.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including:
    • Surface creation and management
    • Profile generation and editing
    • Cross-section development and analysis
  • Experience performing digitizing and quantity takeoffs from PDFs and civil engineering drawings.
  • Civil engineering or land surveying background.
  • Experience identifying and annotating utility conflicts on engineering and construction plans.
  • Strong technical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting utility, transportation, municipal, site development, or geotechnical projects.
  • Familiarity with survey data processing and construction documentation.
