What is a computer accountant?

Computer Accountants are professionals who utilize computer technology and accounting software to manage, analyze, and report on financial data. They are responsible for tasks such as maintaining digital financial records, automating accounting processes, and ensuring data accuracy using specialized software. This role requires a combination of accounting knowledge and technical skills to efficiently handle modern financial systems, generate reports, and support business decision-making. Computer Accountants often work closely with IT teams to implement and optimize accounting solutions for their organizations.

What are some common challenges faced by computer accountants when integrating new accounting software with existing systems?

Computer Accountants often encounter challenges such as data migration issues, compatibility problems between old and new software, and ensuring that all financial records remain accurate during the transition. Effective communication with IT departments and thorough testing are essential to address these challenges. Additionally, they may need to train colleagues on new processes and troubleshoot unexpected errors, making adaptability and strong problem-solving skills crucial for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a computer accountant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Accountant, you need a solid background in accounting principles, financial analysis, and a relevant degree such as a B.Com or equivalent. Job description

About DataStealth

DataStealth is a single, unified AI data security platform (DSP)that discovers, classifies, and protects sensitive data across your entire environment - from on-premise to legacy systems to cloud. Wherever your data lives or flows, we protect it using the latest technologies and AI. We do this without requiring complex integrations or changes to your existing applications, ensuring security that enables, rather than hinders, your business. By seamlessly applying data protection strategies such as tokenization, we ensure that even if your perimeter is breached, your data remains unusable if it falls into the wrong hands.

Recognized for the fifth consecutive year as aGreat Place to Work, we are one of the world's leading and fastest growing cybersecurity software companies. Our patented technology gives our large enterprise customers a paradigm-shifting way to solve the data security problems that legacy approaches cannot.

Role Overview:

We're looking for a detail-driven Bookkeeper/Accountant to take ownership of our day-to-day financial operations and help keep our finances accurate, organized, and audit-ready. In this role, you'll manage core accounting activities in QuickBooks - recording transactions, handling accounts payable and receivable, and processing vendor invoices - while performing regular reconciliations across our USD and CAD bank accounts and credit cards. You'll keep a close eye on corporate card expenses, digital subscriptions, and travel reimbursements, and support the month-end close through journal entries, accruals, deferred revenue, and financial reporting.

Beyond the numbers, you'll be a guardian of data integrity - maintaining clean digital filing systems and ensuring our financial records are always ready for tax preparation and auditing. Just as importantly, you'll bring an automation mindset: helping us identify and roll out AI and automation tools (like AP automation and receipt scanning) that streamline our finance workflows and cut down on manual work.

You'll thrive in this role if you bring a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, a solid understanding of core accounting concepts (debits and credits, accrual accounting, and financial statement preparation), and hands-on experience with QuickBooks and advanced Excel. We're looking for someone with at least an internship or three years of accounting experience, exceptional attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Progress toward a CPA designation is a definite asset.

Key Responsibilities

  • QuickBooks Management: Record day-to-day financial transactions, manage accounts payable/receivable, and process vendor invoices.
  • Bank Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliations of USD and CAD bank accounts and, credit cards.
  • Expense Tracking: Monitor corporate card expenses, digital subscriptions and travel reimbursements.
  • Month-End Support: Assist with journal entries, accruals, deferred revenue, and financial reporting.
  • Data Integrity: Maintain digital filing systems and ensure clean financial data for tax preparation and auditing.
  • Process Innovation & AI Enablement: Support the finance team in identifying, testing, and adopting AI and automation tools to streamline day-to-day accounting workflows - reducing manual data entry and reconciliation, improving accuracy, and freeing up time for higher-value analysis
  • Other: Assists with ad hoc reporting and special projects as operational needs arise.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Good understanding of accounting concepts, accrual accounting and financial statement preparation.
  • Software: Proven hands-on experience using QuickBooks and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Industry Context: Prior internship or 3 years of accounting experience.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and comfort adapting to changing fast pace environment.
  • Automation Mindset: Interest & experience in evaluating and rolling out automation/AI tools (e.g., AP automation and workflow within finance operations.
  • Working towards a CPA designation is an asset.
