How much do computational electromagnetics jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 20, 2026, the average hourly pay for computational electromagnetics in the United States is $54.93, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $46.88 and $73.56 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a computational electromagnetics job?

A Computational Electromagnetics (CEM) job involves using numerical methods and algorithms to analyze and solve complex electromagnetic problems. Professionals in this field develop simulations to study wave propagation, antenna design, radar systems, and electromagnetic interference. They commonly use tools like the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method or the Finite Element Method (FEM) to model electromagnetic behavior. CEM experts work in industries such as telecommunications, aerospace, defense, and electronics, ensuring efficient and accurate designs for electromagnetic applications.

What does a computational electromagnetics professional do?

A typical day in Computational Electromagnetics involves developing and running simulations to analyze electromagnetic fields, validating models against experimental data, and optimizing designs based on the results. You'll often collaborate with engineers, physicists, and project managers to interpret simulation outcomes and integrate feedback into product development. Problem-solving, documentation, and presenting findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders are key aspects of the role. The work environment frequently includes both independent analysis and teamwork, making it dynamic and highly collaborative.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed for computational electromagnetics?

Computational Electromagnetics professionals need a strong background in electromagnetics theory, numerical modeling, and proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or C++. Familiarity with simulation software like CST Microwave Studio, ANSYS HFSS, or COMSOL Multiphysics, and experience with high-performance computing environments, are typically required. Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and clear communication skills help these professionals effectively analyze complex systems and convey technical findings. These capabilities are crucial for designing, testing, and optimizing electromagnetic devices and systems in industries ranging from telecommunications to aerospace.
