What you'll be doing:  

The Manager, Banking Compliance and Analysis is responsible for the day-to-day execution of Illumia's compliance program, with a focus on Banking Operations, client onboarding and underwriting, and regulatory change management. This role requires strong analytical capability, sound judgment, and the ability to operate as a trusted subject matter expert across the organization. The Manager collaborates closely with Banking Operations, the BSA Officer, Legal, and other business units to ensure the company's practices align with regulatory expectations and the bank's risk appetite. 

Job Summary / Purpose 

This role plays a critical role in supporting Illumia's compliance and analysis requirements through execution of daily compliance functions and direct collaboration with Banking Operations and other business units. This position is responsible for conducting and/or overseeing compliance monitoring, coordinating regulatory change efforts, client onboarding, and serving as the subject matter expert (SME) for compliance-related matters. The Compliance Manager also plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing compliance practices related to school-related transactions, disbursements and analysis, and overall compliance regulatory readiness. The role supports audit preparation, policy maintenance, and ensures Banking Operations procedures are compliant and updated to reflect regulatory expectations. This role also leads Client Onboarding and Underwriting due diligence efforts and supports the BSA Officer with daily BSA/AML functions as needed. 

Compliance operates as a strategic business unit aimed at creating a competitive advantage for the department and overall corporate vision. The Compliance Manager must be familiar with and actively supportive of the company's overall business plans and strategic goals, ensuring these objectives are achieved within regulatory frameworks and the bank's risk appetite.

 Your day-to-day work will include executing compliance monitoring, coordinating regulatory change, and contributing to process improvements that strengthen Illumia's overall compliance and risk management framework. 

 Who you'll work with: 

You will be an integral part of the Compliance and Banking Operations teams. In this role, you will work closely with Banking Operations leadership, the BSA Officer, Legal, and Compliance Committee members to ensure Banking Operations procedures, client onboarding, and disbursement practices remain compliant with applicable regulations. You will collaborate across departments including Client Success, Support, Product, and Engineering to support audit readiness, policy maintenance, and overall regulatory compliance. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Conduct and/or oversee daily compliance monitoring and testing activities related to Banking Operations, transaction processing, and school-related disbursements to identify and remediate compliance gaps. 
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for compliance-related matters, providing guidance to Banking Operations and other business units on regulatory requirements and internal policy. 
  • Coordinate and lead regulatory change management efforts, tracking new and amended regulations and translating them into updated policies, procedures, and operational practices. 
  • Create, modify, update, and implement compliance policies and procedures to ensure Banking Operations practices remain current with regulatory expectations. 
  • Execute the compliance program's day-to-day operations, including monitoring, testing, and reporting cadences that support the department's overall compliance strategy. 
  • Support audit and examination preparation, including gathering documentation, responding to findings, and coordinating corrective action plans with Banking Operations and other stakeholders. 
  • Prepare materials for and support Compliance Committee meetings, including reporting on compliance metrics, emerging risks, and regulatory developments. 
  • Support the BSA Officer with daily Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) / Anti-Money Laundering (AML) functions, including monitoring, escalations, and recordkeeping, as needed. 
  • Lead Client Onboarding and Underwriting due diligence efforts, including Know Your Customer (KYC) reviews, to ensure new clients meet regulatory and risk requirements prior to onboarding. 
  • Assist in developing and delivering compliance training programs for employees across Banking Operations and other business units. 
  • Analyze internal business processes and transaction operations to ensure compliance with industry regulations, card network/NACHA rules, and ethical standards. 
  • Develop risk management strategies and design control systems to detect, prevent, and address violations of internal business policies. 
  • Leverage Power BI and other analytical tools, including emerging AI capabilities, to build banking analysis views and dashboards that support compliance monitoring and business decision-making. 
  • Liaise with other departmental heads to ensure business operations remain aligned with company policy and regulatory obligations. 
  • Advise senior management on compliance considerations related to business operations, investments, risk, and policy development. 
  • Maintain familiarity with and actively support Illumia's overall business plans and strategic goals, ensuring they are achieved within regulatory frameworks and the bank's risk appetite. 

What you bring to the table: 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience in banking. 
  • Minimum 5 years of compliance experience, with at least 2 years in banking operations; OR minimum 5 years of banking experience, with at least 2 years in a compliance role. 
  • Demonstrated experience with Know Your Customer (KYC), client underwriting, and onboarding due diligence. 
  • Working knowledge of BSA/AML regulations and banking compliance frameworks. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Power BI for compliance analysis and reporting. 
  • Ability to apply AI-enabled tools and technologies to strengthen compliance processes and analysis including automation of monitoring tasks, predictive risk insights, and workflow optimization. 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to serve as a subject matter expert across business units. 

 Preferred Qualifications 

  • CRCM (Certified Regulatory Manager) certification preferred. 
  • Experience supporting BSA/AML programs in a banking or fintech environment.
