Job description

Job Summary:The Residence Worker provides care for the individuals in the group home and participates as part of the team responsible for implementing all aspects of the residents' program, including the organization's policies, procedures and philosophy. On both an individual and group basis, the Residence Worker supports the quality of life for residents by ensuring that their physical, social, educational and health needs are met.


Education, Training and Experience

  • Community Support Worker Certificate or equivalent
  • Three month's experience delivering similar services
  • Experience in supporting individuals with disabilities in a group home setting
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification
  • Food Safe Certificate
  • Class 5 driver's license (Class 4 preferred) and own vehicle


Qualifications,Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of theory, values and practices in community livingincluding support systems
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate, provide personalized support and teach life skills to residents
  • Ability to work alone and unsupervised, as well as part of a team
  • Ability to perform lifts and transfers of clients
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills preferably experience with Microsoft Office


Advocacy

  • To advocate for individuals and families so they obtain needed support
  • To teach individuals and families self-advocacy skills
  • To advocate for support and change within the systems that affect residents and their families


Personal Attributes

  • Positive role model including modeling a healthy lifestyle
  • Empathy, warmth, and understanding
  • Ability to work effectively with families, staff, volunteers, and organizations
  • Physician's health reference and NegativeTB test
  • Current, satisfactory criminal record search

Please Note:

  • Applicants must provide at least one written professional reference from a previous supervisor or manager
  • The successful candidate will begin employment at theCampbell Residence:
    Saturday and Sunday 7:00am - 1:00pm, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 4:00pm-9:00pm
  • This position is open to all qualified individuals and requires Union membership
  • May be required to use personal vehicle
  • Successful applicant must acquireClass 4 Unrestricteddrivers' license in order to pass the three-month trial period
