Job Summary
This is a Community Service Work Study student employment position. Applicants must have Federal Work Study funds in their Financial Aid package.

This position is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the Maybelle Center Community Room and works within a collaborative program team. Together the team works with individuals living downtown in affordable apartments and single room occupancy buildings to increase individuals' sense of belonging through inclusive social activities.
The Community Room Schedule is Monday 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM; Tuesday 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM; Wednesday CLOSED; Thursday 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM; Friday 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM .
Location: 121 NW 6th Ave Portland OR 97209
Note: Student may not earn more than $2,000 total in this position, which equates to 118 hours worked between Fall and Spring semester.
Core Duties
  • Assist with daily hospitality during Community Room hours which includes being a calm presence, opening and closing procedures, making coffee, posting daily activities, preparing the room for member presence, and cleaning the room and preparing it for the next day.
  • Adaptability in task and priority.
  • Organized and able to self-start.
  • A passion for accessible and inclusive programming.
  • Experience maintaining healthy boundaries and strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to maintain calm and thrive for long periods of time in an often-chaotic environment with multiple demands for your time and attention.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have Federal Work Study fund in Financial Aid Package (contact finaid@up.edu with questions)
  • Ability to pass a background check.

  • Experience living or working within the Old Town/Chinatown/ Downtown neighborhood boundaries.
Physical Requirements
  • Maintain the Community Room and adjacent storage/laundry areas in clean condition.
  • Ability to bend and lift 30 pounds.
